Is there a movie franchise that you feel has been “done to death”?

For me it’s Despicable Me and Minions. The first one was cute and enjoyable, the second one was ok, but then give the minions their own movies? Why not, sure. But this summer, there’s a 4th Despicable Me coming out. Just let the franchise die already!!!

-The Fast and the Furious
-Transformers: Anyone else remember when those films would come out and break box offices for zero apparent reason?
-Star Wars: Let it die, I'm begging
-Harry Potter: Book franchise, movies, new book, prequels, stage play, readaptation...
-Toy Story: The first film was in 1996 and they're still working on sequels
-Despicable Me

Counter to that, here are some franchises that keep going on, but I kinda like how they've been treated by pop culture,

-Scream: The original film was built on a meta idea so it makes perfect sense that it would come back for a modern readaptation series and get meta all over again
-Spiderman: No Way Home and Across the Spiderverse are two of the only 10/10 movies to come out since covid. Gotta praise this franchise for that
-Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: So far, all three Wonka actors have been very distinct and I like the different portrayals of his character
-Dr Who: Obviously not a movie franchise but this is just a good example of a product that transcends generations and gets remade annually. It feels like a little party happens in the UK whenever a new actor steps forward

Spiderman is genuinely the only worthwhile thing about Marvel right now. Everything else? Done to death. But bringing back Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland to make a film for the fans? Followed by a plot heavy, culturally diverse and gorgeously animated film? They did Spiderman so much justice

Agree on that one. I’m sure I had some in mind some time ago, but I just can’t recall at the moment. Maybe a few not AS overdone as the despicable me and minions ones.

Maybe Disney’s cars? I never bothered to see the third one.

Not sure, but quite a few that REALLY didn’t need a second film.

Star Wars, Rocky, Rambro, Hellraiser (after the 4th one it got really stupid!), Batman. Superman, Spiderman, all those comic book movies, Halloween (the third one was the only one worth watching), Friday The 13th, probably Nightmare On Elm Street (I've never gone past the 4th one and even that was still pretty good), Star Trek: Next Generation, maybe a couple others I forgot. I liked Matrix but the third one kinda lost me, it wasn't even the same story, anymore.
Columbo was very consistent from the very first one (with Peter Falk) all the way to the last one! He only changed his demeanor a little bit from the first one to the second. (or was that the third?). James Bond was mostly pretty good. Maybe one of the last 5 was a tad on the weak side. I've never seen any of the Planet Of The Apes movies past the 5th one so, I can't say anything about them. The 5th one WAS slicing it a mite thin!

I wasn't a fan of Alien 4, but very liked both prequels... and now waiting for Aug 15th and a new movie :D

Star Wars - the first Preque" was OK as was "Rogue One" and season one of the "Mandalorian" after that the whole franchise went into a death spiral.
