1 yI always appreciated the philosophical writing in Star Trek and how it worked to really build their universe and the concepts therein. They addressed issues relevant to their audience with a lot of groundbreaking ideas (not to mention the original star trek had the first on-screen interracial kiss in the US. That was HUGE in the 60’s and the story behind it is honestly kind of funny). With each new generation they did a lot of great stories revolving around ideas relevant to their audience at the time, the worldbuilding is great and it works within that science fiction genre exceptionally well while also being digestible to a general audience that was happy to see these kinds of ideas discussed through a fictional medium. I have no doubt it opened up a lot of minds aside from just inspiring future NASA employees.
Star wars is not sci-fi tho, it’s a space opera. It’s space fantasy with space wizards and light swords. It’s great and philosophical in its own way when speaking on morality in the clear dichotomy of good and evil it presents in its movies, but much of the franchise’s best relies in the extended universe: the books, the games, the clone wars series, etc. which is not something the general public is really going to bother with when Star Wars’s namesake is its movie franchise. If someone has sat through all movie trilogies, that’s seeing the forefront of Star Wars and understanding the main message it wants to put out to its audience, which is horribly watered down and oversimplified compared to everything else. Not to mention since the property has come into the ownership of Disney, they’ve been squeezing every drop out of it to a shameless degree in order to make as much profit as possible. I won’t say they ruined it, as there’s still a lot of good to be found in the work they’ve done (the 3rd trilogy, the mandalorian, Ahsoka, etc.) but you can see the soulless demand for it despite creative minds doing their best and it overwhelms their audience with content that it feels impossible to keep up sometimes.00 Reply

Initially as a kid SW captures the imagination thanks to the pint size Luke Skywalker and cute muppet creatures, but ultimately it’s a very sordid family affair about a bunch of dysfunctional folks who drag the entire universe into their drama using “THE FORCE” as an excuse. (Hmm.)
ST sticks with its sci-fi theme and from early on is more of an adult-themed show…. The crew isn’t completely dysfunctional, the humor between the cast members is consistent, there aren’t as many petulant whiners moving the main dramatic force forward…. Golly gee.
Live long and prosper, folks.11 Reply- 1 y
If you need a show to be boring and charmless to be "adult-themed" you're probably also boring

That trilogy - and especially the first movie - literally changed the world in so many ways. From a film-making point of view, it advanced the technology about 30 years almost overnight, and made everything else seem sad and pathetic by comparison until the industry caught up to ILM about 20 years later. And the story - the hero's journey - was something that nearly everyone could identify with. Finally, the world-building was astonishing - like nothing anyone had ever seen on film, and far beyond anything Star Trek had ever shown, even to today.
Sadly, the Kathleen Kennedy era has utterly destroyed Star Wars - the franchise that literally CREATED merchandising and used to sell several billions of dollars worth a year sends more product to landfills then it sells, and it's caused Hasbro to declare bankruptcy. And re-runs of The Love Boat get more views than new episodes of woke Star Wars shows. THAT should tell you everything you need to know about the state of Star Wars today.
The original trilogy is the only thing that sells, and the brand is so damaged that even that doesn't sell much anymore.

Oh, the classic debate! 🌌 I’ve always had a soft spot for Star Wars. The epic storylines, the rich, imaginative worlds, and of course, the iconic characters like Darth Vader and Yoda really captured my heart. From a visual standpoint, the artistry in Star Wars is stunning – from the starships to the alien landscapes, every frame feels like a work of art. Plus, the movies have such a strong emotional undercurrent, with themes of hope, redemption, and the eternal struggle between good and evil.
But don’t get me wrong, Star Trek is brilliant in its own way. The philosophical questions it raises, the exploration of different cultures and societies, and its vision of a hopeful future for humanity are incredibly compelling. It's just that the adventure and fantasy elements of Star Wars resonate with me a little more. 🚀✨00 Reply

1 yIt all depends. If I want to watch something intellectual and representative of the human condition I watch Star Trek. If I want to see an action sci-fi then I watch Star Wars ep 4-6 if I want to see a whiny kid and terrible acting I watch ep 1-3. If I want to see something that makes no sense and panders to my nostalgia I watch ep 7-9.

1 yStar trek was boring. At least Star Wars kept me watching. I passed by a lot of star trek people at xfiles conventions. A number of stars look terrified to be at those things as if they will be jumped even with a dozen security surrounding them. I'd love to ask them their past stories if its happened.

1 yThe title of each explains the difference. Star Wars is all about fighting while Star Trek is about exploration, and acceptance if others, which is a much more desirable future of us human species.
The Star Trek franchise is also much larger than Star Wars, with hundreds of series episodes in addition to several movies, compared to Star Wars and its several movies.
00 Reply Definitely Star Wars. The original trilogy is better but I did really love Rogue One. I just couldn't get into Star Trek much.
10 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Entertainment & Arts topic. The star wars TV series was great. Some of the movies were good, too.
When the first Star Wars movie was released, though, it was monumental. Too bad those movies quickly went down hill with an effort to appeal to children.00 Reply
1 yIn general: Star Wars.
But only the 'Old Republic' Era; 3600 prior to the Star Wars movies.
Movie/ TV series wise: Star Trek

1 yI didn’t grow up on the hold Star Wars or Star Trek, I watched them when I was a child and I didn’t like any of them, but the newer movies 2000s I watched them all and I enjoyed them both Star Wars and Star Trek

1 yI loved both, but I’d say Star Wars. I absolutely love science-fiction, but I love science-fantasy even more. What’s cooler than a “space wizard with a laser sword”?
00 Reply That’s so easy. And NOT EVEN close. Star Wars. I mean there are not 6 hit women on earth that starrred in or like star Trek
Star Wars is just way cooler
