When do you think companies will stop making entertainment that nobody wants to consume?

Sony bought a game studio who were in the middle of developing a game 200 million had already gone into developing it and it wasn't even playable. So they put another 200 million into the game they released it and they only made 1 million dollars back. Which they then had to refund because the game was so bad and so few people were playing it that they decided to just cut all support for it and take the loss. The plan was to make this a live service game to keep updating it and keep investing in it and make people play it long term but only 600 people played it at all so it wasn't worth the investment.

The theory that people have come up with to how a product can be released that is so universally rejected by consumers is that nobody can offer constructive criticism anymore. They might get accused of some form of hate towards a group of people so they just shut their mouth and go along with whatever is being proposed. But the consumers they don't have the same pressure on them. Nobody can call you racist for not buying a video game. Well the journalists are trying their best to do that but it hasn't been very effective so far.

Here's a video of one single person redesigning the characters of Concord.

I feel like the tides are turning when it comes to this trend but I don't think it will be a quick turn around. There will be more losses like this.

For comparison this game only cost 70 million to make and it looks amazing and people love it. It has 95% positive reviews on steam and 2.5 million people played it concurrently at launch. It has passed 20 million sold copies.

Gamers have been pointing out these problems and the lacking connection between devlopers game journalists and the people who actually by the games for a long time but everytime it has come up there's been a strong effort to silence and straw man the message. But sooner or later companies will have to listen to the people who actually pay their bills.
