Or cheats on her guy with the main character? It seems to be a trend that I didn't notice until recently. But like, Notebook and Titanic are the two most famous ones I've seen, and that's what happens in both.

This isn't my fantasy, so maybe that's why I don't like romance films. Girls, am I the unusual one here?

That's just the theme of most adult or teen American TV and film. The fact that those films were the most successful just shows that this is the content that women prefer. A smart writer/director makes more content of whatever sells the best. It's just capitalism, basically.

Ah, my post is redundant. Even the movie references I made, you pointed out. I guess those are the common ones everyone talks about because they are the two most popular romance movies anyone has ever heard of.

I'm wondering if the new romance movies coming out are still featuring infidelity. It seems like most regular movies and TV shows still feature women cheating. And then we wonder why men think we're all cheaters 🤔

I think it's because movies are an escape, a fantasy. If you read some of the responses some of the women were incensed that I would ask this. And yes I'll concede Hollywood is a male dominated industry. But a lot of the women ignored my point that they don't have to support it. They don't have to buy tickets if they disagree with it. So in essence they have to agree with on some level.

In both the Notebook and the Titanic the “betrothed” men were not necessarily the choices of the women protagonists. They were the choices of their parents, these men symbolized the lack of control these women had in their lives. Leaving them for different men that inspired their passion was a narrative symbol of them taking control back into their own lives.


Also, this genre was most popular about 20 years ago, and the examples you list are both period pieces that were even older than the time in which they were made. One took place during the 1910’s, the other the 1940’s or 50’s. It’s no longer the popular romance trope anymore.
