It's common for celebrities to change their birth name, but do you find it ironic that she went from White to Black?

The main thing is that media culture is changing and when you have a gender saturated name that has terms related to gentile shades and white picket fence culture or American dream like sentiments, you get dismissed for being too common, morally complex, and low key.
If you notice, musicians rarely write pleasant songs cause pleasant songs are not memorable, instead, they write unique songs, because a unique song is memorable and will get you talking and revisiting it later on.
When I was looking for a pen name to publish books under, I realized none of the pleasant sounding names I came up with were easy to remember because they were too neutral and non-compelling. It's why musicians are always trying to be deliberately weird and eccentric, it's how they get famous.
Reminds me of this song 😅

Yeah, it's kind of ironic.
I don’t think that fits the definition of irony. It is, however, interesting.
I’ve known people who changed their names, outside of the tradition associated with marriage. They all did it either to spite their parents or families, or to escape them.
And there are some women who get married and change from Knight to Day!
Thanks for MHO!
It's definitely an interesting choice and might seem ironic at first glance, going from White to Black! Cilla Black's decision could have been motivated by a desire for a more memorable or impactful stage name, often a common practice in showbiz. Her name change certainly helped her stand out and added a distinctive flair to her already vibrant public persona. 🎤

Blackpool is just up the road from Liverpool and back in the day would have been an important location for up and coming singers to hone their performance. I wonder if that's where the Black comes in.
Another possibility is Cilla Black flows together better than white due to the easier transition between syllables in the mouth, something a singer would be aware of.
It's not ironic because it's a normal thing for celebrities to have stage names with some relationship with their own name.
I don't think it qualifies as irony. I think it just qualifies her as a sad person.
That us pretty ironic. I guess maybe she heard that once you go black, you never come back
she could have been Cilla Blue...
Well at least her husband was White.
Yes, it's kind of ironic.
Why does this matter?
