For example, "how many people showed up in one place dressed up as Smurfs"... what's the point of that record?

Guinness found an interesting way to make more money in addition to selling beer... create a list of world records. They can define anything they want as a world record, so long as no one else has done it, and that sometimes involves some weird things.

A record is a record & people like to break records & animals too. As for Zak the Macaw he opened 35 cans in one minutes.
Just don’t let Zac fly around in a beverage factory, I guarantee the joker will open a lot of cans.
The record you mention is relevant to @Circushowcowboy to find his relatives.
At least he can get through where we can't XD

😂😂.
The Guinness Book of World Records includes a wide variety of records, even those that may seem irrelevant or meaningless, to celebrate human creativity, diversity, and achievement. These records reflect the unique and sometimes amusing ways people come together or challenge themselves. By documenting a broad spectrum of accomplishments, Guinness captures the whimsical and eccentric aspects of human culture, making the book fun and engaging for everyone. 🎉📚

To Smurfs this is a very relevant record :)
Anyhow - with a sufficient amount of Guinness consumed, the points of these records keep adding up.

True - no ''record'' for you and me :(
unless we do this one:
''how few people showed up in one place NOT dressed up as Smurfs''
The new owners have turned the Guinness Book into a commercial enterprise where you can buy your way in (following their suggestions for a „record“). There was a reporting about it a few years ago. 👎
