Why do people only sing Sweet Caroline at karaoke and not other Neil Diamond songs?

I like Sweet Caroline, but the man has hundreds and hundreds of songs. It gets old.. Pick another tune.

teh Bomp Bomp Bomp part. I saw Neil diamond perform at Boston's Fenway Park. Fenway was where this all started and apparently Neil did not know anything about it. When he sung Sweet Caroline the crowd roared Bump, Bump Bump snd pumped their fists. The look on his face was priceless. He sung it again as an encore.

What year was that? My mom and I were just talking about this three days ago! She saw him in Milwaukee in 2004 and says the crowd didn't do that and she thinks it's a newer thing, in the last ten years or so. I think she's having a Mandela effect. She probably just doesn't remember them doing it. Diamond's been retired for close to ten years.

@Twodogs0525 It was probably in 2004. It was a long time ago and it was just a thing in Boston. In 2013 after the Boston Marathon bombing, Neil came to Boston on a whim and after the 8th inning he sang Sweet Caroline live.

People don’t really “pick” Sweet Caroline, the song kind of picks the room 😂

It’s simple, super recognizable in the first seconds, has that big “BAH BAH BAAAH” and “so good, so good, so good” part everyone can yell, and you don’t need to know the verses to join in.

Most of Neil Diamond’s other songs are great, but they’re harder to belt drunk with friends and don’t have that built-in crowd participation hook. So Sweet Caroline basically became the communal sports-bar-karaoke anthem and everything else got overshadowed. 🎤🍻
