How do you feel about the decline of physical discs, DVDs, and CD / DVD players?

Floppy is long gone sadly 💾 and i was still using floppy disks in the 2000s. The 2000s!

It's quite sad 😅😭So I'll keep enjoying my player (s) ▶️ ⏯️ and connected smart TV (still works, wow) and my small DVDs that I own for as long as my player plays or my smart TV (s) into the future keep allowing Blu ray plugs 🔌

Sure saves a lot of space around the TV! The very positive thing is that most any old movie or show can be found on the internet now, so if you can remember the name it's likely you will find it.

I have about 30-40 personal DVDs I've bought or been gifted for Christmases. Etc 💿 they're to be rewatched, kept dust free, and enjoyed

I’m torn about it 😅

I love the convenience of streaming, but physical media has this magic: cover art, booklets, director’s commentaries, deleted scenes, and the comfort that nobody can suddenly remove or edit your movie or album.

I still keep a small DVD and Blu-ray collection like little art pieces on a shelf. Feels more “real” than a digital library 💿📀

Glad they are gone though i be nostalgic when you go to some people's house where they still have DVD movies and box sets from 2000-2014 along with cds maybe older videos and cassette tapes from b4 2000, records too all in book selves on display like part of the furniture. You think about tvs, dvd/video players, and of course music players with speakers, record player, tape decks, I'd player along with units needed to put them on etc were a display of wealth and part of the decor. Now its basically a tv on the wall. Some desktop computers too.

CDS and other solid media were a means by which you could personally take content that you paid for anywhere you want and only have the proper player to play it. Everything being streaming without physica; content, is a step backwards. Modern technology could have compressed the content of a CD or DVD onto an instrument the size of a silver dollar. I think there is a hole in the marketplace. And physical content should be restored.

To folks who still collect DVDs while they still exist sold mainstream , bless them 😅 I'm one of them who still buys DVDs at the stores for as long as they're existing and my player holds 😜

It is progress. A CD only holds 650 MB anyway. A ten dollar flash drive can hold 16 GB and it is much smaller and has faster speeds.

Sony just announced it was deleting 551 StudioCanal films from Playstation accounts. So the money you spent to "buy" the movie means nothing. It's gone.

It's all part of the long-term plans by corporations. In the future, media will be rented never "owned" and the rental can be terminated at any time. People are already experiencing this with steaming services.
