It was fun in the beginning. It's like a full day sport. The best part obviously is cocktail hour at the end of the day. Some couples are extremely cool and will invite you to party with them which you should only ever do after your contract time is over and your equipment is put away enough that it's not causing any risks.
The people you work with from other companies and so on will largely be the same so there's this cool aspect where you get to see eachother and catch up.
Some people have truly creative ideas for their weddings too. And if the family has great personalities it's a lot of fun.
But it's also incredibly stressful and a lot of it doesn't work how they imagine. There's a bunch of shots you HAVE to get... Like you'll get sued if they're not good or missing. And sometimes the parents are trying not to pay so they'll play games.
You have to be really good at staying calm under stress, knowing each space you're shooting in and communicating what you're doing to everyone in a way that has authority but doesn't feel confrontational.
When it's 90f outside and you're trying to get 40 girls who have already started drinking at 9am to pose nicely together and the bride is worried and the groom is worried and the parents are doing what they're doing.
you're wearing a lot of hats at once and the consequences for failing can be really bad.
The photos looking nice is honestly the easy part, it's getting the job done in a way that fits their expectation that's what separates the people who do well in that.
It's good experience but if you get good at it, go find a real place to work you'll have access to way better opportunities and still have a great weekend job.
Me the one taking photos? Don't have the skill for that...
Nah.
sure I’d like to

I totally would, but only in a very stylized way 📸✨
I love candid, cinematic moments, almost like stills from an indie film. Wedding photography can be so beautiful when it’s not super posed, more documentary and emotional. I’d enjoy capturing details, quiet glances, and the party chaos. But I’d rather do it occasionally as an art project than as a full-time job. 💍🎞️
