Take your son on a date, make Valentine's Day special again

When most people think about Valentine's Day they think about boyfriends and girlfriends or husbands giving their wives gifts. Here is a mom giving her little boy a valentine heart decoration.

You should take your son, nephew, or little brother on a cute little date. There are too many great reasons not to do it, and here are four reasons why you should.

You can create life long memories with your son

1. Create memories

Buy your son a toy, take him to an arcade, or watch a kid's show with him. He will remember all those little things you did for him.

2. Spend quality time with him by treating him like he is special

Take him to a funhouse, there is just something that boys love so much about funhouses and take a picture too to keep as a fond memory, he will remember how much you loved taking him to places where he can play. And then you could buy him a meal or ice cream afterwards.

3. It gives you a chance to be a rolemodel to show him how a lady should treat a man

There is no better way to show your son how to be a gentleman towards a woman than for a mom to show her son how to treat a woman by taking him on a date.

Tell him how handsome he is.

Ask him about school, his friends, any extracurricular activities,etc.

Cut the bread off of bread if that's how he likes it.

4. Men shouldn't be shamed for being a momma's boy

A father's love for his daugther shouldn't be the only thing to be celebrated, a mother's love for her son should be celebrated too. Women never get shamed for being a daddy's girl, but men get shamed for being a momma's boy which shouldn't be the case. So why not take this time on Valentine's day to do that?

This is sweet but whoever has children will tell you that you do all those thinks everyday of your life and your whole life is (or should be) devoted to them. So maybe valentines day should stay as it is, a chance for hardworking mums and dads to do something for eachother and maybe have some fun

In our house we don't really buy into the whole commercialism of St. Valentine's day (#youvebeenhad). But, we try to do stuff for people who've lost their loves, and who are really feeling that loneliness when this day -- all full of red and pink and hearts and flowers, and shit -- comes around.

My oldest son (13yo) is getting to be a pretty damn good singer. So, today, he's gna actually put on a performance at an older folks' home, back near where I grew up. Some love songs, for all the widows and widowers in there who've lost the loves of their lives.

It was his idea, even.
I was impressed.

There's "being a man with a good, functional relationship with mama"... and there's "being a mama's boy".

Two different animals.

The first is something that should be true of any man with a non-dysfunctional, non-abusive mother who's still alive.
