What it's like introducing your non goth boyfriend to a traditionally Gothic family

Today was a very important day for me. It was the day I brought my boyfriend home to meet my family! I was nervous, scared, and a little sick to my stomach. Once he showed up I ran to answer the door and you would not believe the look on my parents faces as he walked in... They whispered things along the line of "why him" and "is this a joke". Why you ask? My family is a traditional goth family and my parents only like the idea of me dating goths.

I fear he will never be accepted in my house. My family is very judgmental when it comes to other peoples styles. I for one think a person is a person! My boyfriend has gone so far to wanting to become a goth to impress my family but I told him no. I love him just how he is so I know my family will find a way to love him to.

The Main thing here, dear, is tha tYOU accept Him Unconditionally. Should you even marry him one day, he is putting Bread Instead on your table, your family is not.
They will either Accept him Unconditionally, either because they love you enough to Be Tough or if they want to hold a Sour Ball and All in their Mouth, hoping this will end up just going South, it's up to Them.
The Main Drain is, He even is Willing to try, to Find it in his own Heart from the Start to Want to be Part of the Family. This is a big Step and Deal for him, and like any family that may be a bit Different, this is a Pretty tall order for him to Fill and to Feel he wants to Do... They need to understand that he is the Special one and this Kind of guy is Far and Few Between.

Not at your goth parents. That you didnt' rebel. I have friends my age and older who are still dialed down goths or whatever, we all used to joke our kids would probably love like justin bieber and t swift because that would drive us nuts.

If your parents love you they should want you to be happy, and if he's a good guy who does that, they will care for him.

oh! that is awesome! I'd love to paint my house black. I used to beg to paint my bedroom black.. after getting a place of my own I bought black paint, but after realizing all the work that goes into painting I kept putting it off. lol

What I say in any case when two people come from different backgrounds/environments is show your family how strongly you feel about your BF/GF. Assuming he/she is not a negative person in your life (Drug dealer etc), most families will come around to accepting the relationship. If unfortunately they don't that moves the problem to a whole different level but thankfully that probably only happens a small amount of the time. Talk to your family and say what you said here about seeing the person rather than what they look like then hopefully your family will appreciate how mature you are and give their blessing.
