I completely agree with you. Good job on your mytake. How many siblings do you have? How old are they? Do they treat them like they treat you?
I have one sibling: a sister of twenty.
I do have a lot of cousins who I also see as siblings though.
my parents were probably about as strict as they come... i have a good life, good career and i am still close to them.
You're asian? That's incomparable. Your whole culture is made up around discipline. Mine isn't.
I was born and raised in the US. I didn't see any claim that white people require a different method of parenting. That's just silly.
Obviously not but it is a huge cultural difference. It'd be silly of you not to see that. That's like saying people in africa are raised the same is in Europe. They aren't.
hardly, your statement is absolute, i made no claims as to all being the same. If it can work for one, it works for others. You need only look through the comments to see there is sufficient claim that strcit parenting does in fact work. There is no claim that it will always work, where your statement simply says "it won't work".
There are also people commenting it didn't work on them. There's two sides to every story, ny sole experience with this type of parenting is failure.
so maybe a better headline is "why strict parenting sometimes doesn;t work"
*most of the times.
You're going to thankful for your parents when you get older. Seriously. My students are your age and so many of them wish they had parents like yours. You should be grateful.
My parents aren't strict strict, they're strict for dutch people. I don't know if you're familiar with dutch people, but we're loose af. I know foreigners who have it worse than me and i was mostly taking their examples and fitting mine in. I won't be grateful for years of depression and anxiety i have to deal with. I don't have discipline, i'm a wreck.
Again. You'll be more thankful when you get older. You have some type of structure where a lot of people don't have any.
I grew up with strict parents. I think I turned out fine. In fact, I'm grateful that my parents are strict and protective of me during my formative years. Parents who are too relaxed tend to have the worst offspring, the type of people who gets pregnant out of wedlock or parties all night. Nah, I prefer a conservative life, and that's how I'm going to raise my children... if I have any.
Gosh a teenager that thinks their parents are the worst and to strict and blames them for their problems and thinks they are the experts on how to raise a child.
Where have I heard that one before?
I never said my parents were the worst. I love my parents, it's just that I'd hate to see everyone make the same mistakes and risk their chidlren having mental illnesses (like me)
my parents were strick when I was younger I felt like I was a prisoner
No. Kids need discipline. Lack of discipline leads to lack of respect. That's why you got so many hoes running around making babies, drinking and doing drugs, and acting like complete and utter assholes.
Lmao I don't think that's how it works. I don't respect anyone unless they've shown me some things. Yelling at me and telling me I can't go anywhere is not teaching me respect.
And you're part of what's wrong with today's youth. You have no concept of respect and how to act maturely.
You're right, the kids doing the craziest shit in college are usually the ones with the strictest parents.
That is so unfair. Don't you just hate parents!
https://youtu.be/aUfU1arc0EsI don't. I love parents, they have the most important job in the world. I just don't believe in some parents' strict upbringing.
Please please go to my ex boyfriend's parents and tell them this!
Sure (makes ) you respect others as well as your own self !!
I don't respect others because of a strict upbringing, I respect others if they deserve it.
Asker... I know you feel that way about parents. Although parents shouldn't have to earn your respect at the same time thier teaching you respect. I respect others automatically untill they teach me different. Do you want to teach me different?
I don't trust or respect anyone whom i've just met.
bente2... I understand, although strangers won't disrespect you first , only to react at you. Trust is another story.
So far... you've taught me differently.
There's a difference between being polite to a stranger or respecting someone to me
Take it from me, you WILL thank them for it when you're older.
Your situation might be entirely different to mine. I have and still am struggling with mental illness, mostly because of them.
Excellent take !!
