But with a cat, it's ok if there are days when only have time to feed them and clean up after them.

I'll debunk these all one by one.
Firstly, dogs were specifically bred to be protectors; cats are not. Years of selective breeding proves that. Cats are often more aggressive in nature thus you should have more reason to worry about cats, especially if they are not declawed.
Kids are naturally very playful creatures just as dogs so you don't have to worry because they'll keep each other company.
A dog's lifespan varies depending on the breed, and even then the lifespan shouldn't matter. I'd rather have heaven for a year than Satan for twenty years.
Because cats are more independent, the kids will get bored of the cat because it always wants to be alone. Kids will often try pestering the car to make it more playful, but this ends up angering the cat instead, leading to more damage.
TL;DR: Cats are assholes and will never give the amount of love children need out of a pet. They are even a threat due their naturally aggressive behaviour.

Lol say that to my fattie of a cat. He sleeps with me every night and even just every time I lay down. He waits for me to get home every time I leave. He begs for me to give him attention and affection. He loves it when I pick him up and carry him over my shoulder. Not only that, but he never hisses, swats, or gets angry at me. In fact, the only time he uses his claws on me is when we're roughhousing, and I've even accidentally stepped on his tail several times, yet no hissing or attacking, and he's even cool like 5 minutes later. Plus, he loves belly rubs.

All-in-all, he's my best friend, and far more so than any dog has ever been.

@Gavyn You're right, but your cat is the exception not the rule. What is rarely expected of cats is what certain dog breeds are literally bred for, more specifically lap dogs. In general cats are assholes, and dogs are better. Most cats will treat you like literal shit if you're lucky, some will even hiss, scratch, and attack. Your cat is a one in a million chance whereas with a dog, its basically guaranteed.

Dogs smell. They slobber. They bark. They need a lot of attention and maintenance. You have to play with them, socialize them and train them. You have to take them for walks and pick up their shit.

Cats potty train themselves. They eat less than dogs. They are more dignified. Cat fur is soft and nicer to pet. They purr. You can leave your cat in the house for a couple of days and it will be fine as long as you left it plenty of food and water.

I love cats, but don't think they generally make the best family pets. My cat hates children and likes its space. Most cats like their space, and would get stressed when kids come and demand. Wouldn't wanna put my cat through that and make him aggressive when he really is the sweetest. Some cats would make perfect family pets, but generally, I think dogs are the better option

And kids learn important lessons taking care of a dog. Until then though, I'll live happily with my beautiful main coone.
