Do you have the type parents who feel they can put their hands on you regardless of your age? (Page 2)

Question

I thought it was just a black thing but I now know friends of all ethnic backgrounds whose parents have the nerve as well. Even my friends from HS who range from 21-30 still have parents who will raise a hand to them, despite their grown age.  I almost didn't buy my mom any gifts this Christmas. she's hardly one to lay hands but while shopping with her last week, she felt it was okay to do so. I bought my groceries as she said she’d pay for her personal nongrocery items separately. While at the cash register she kept calling my name asking for my card. I ignored her until she pestered me so. Then i finally responded “What? You said before we got up here that you’d pay for yours.” She was like “I don't know who she think she's what-ing right now?” Then she smacked me upside the back of the head in front of the whole store. It took everything in me not to swing back. But i spent the rest of the day cussing her out in my head 😂 She made it worse by constantly following me around for the next 5 mins, all on my shoulder like a bulldog saying “What you gonna do, you gonna hit me, huh huh?”. Then later that day proceeded to “Oooh i bet you’re texting all your friends talking bad about me because my ears are burning.” Then around the end of the day, she remembered I hadn't bought her Christmas gift yet and decided to give a half ass apology.  Good Lord. Its really good i believe in respecting my mom cause the devil on my shoulder wanted me to smack that hoe down and give her coal for Christmas. #ToxicParents  #FeelFreeToList #MerryChristmas

My mother's never done that, but she has Bipolar disorder and dementia. She says some horrible things to me sometimes, like I don't really love her or that my Dad and I are plotting against her, but that's only when she's depressed. I forgive her, but it's still troubling to hear and I have emotional scars. Jesus wants me to forgive all. I've only been physically abused by my siblings.

my parents still do that, if they get really angry they often have like that need to kinda take it out physically a little, like by grabbing me or shoving me or something

My mom always do hit me over studying stuff, even though i graduated high school with a very high grades
My dad rarley hit me, but when he does, it really hurts.
I would've take it if not fkn locked me for over a year unallowed to go anywhere except school, unallowed to use any kind of social media and internet in general

Beliet it or not, my parents have never hit me or felt the need to hit me.
If I'd mess up on something, they would talk to me about it but have never hit me, which is weird cause Indian parents hitting is very common.

I think past 18 it's no longer a right. However, you call your mother a bit#h that might be a grey area but even then you could be told to leave the house. Verbally it could've solved there too

My Mom is teddy bear, being rude to her would be like kicking a puppy. I never put her in a position where I need to get slapped in the face although in my culture she has that right. Respect for elders is a big thing, disrespect isn’t tolerated

My father used to until I had him in a chokehold on my 18th birthday. A few weeks after that with no contact between him and me, he came to me, a drunk sobbing mess, to apologize for everything.

My mother is great at passive aggressive ignoring. I pretty much talk with her a few times a month, and we ignore each other the rest of the time. Helps that we live 60 miles apart.

Oh yeah absolutely. Im 24 and they still raise hands and say some hurtful shit. In public or in front of friends are the worst! I always want to crawl under a rock and die from embarrassment. Im Casper if it matters 😂

My dad was like that until I pushed back. I tend to defuse situations like that by walking away before it gets worse. Luckily my mom calms my dad down as well.

my father did that until the day of his death, would get a high on smacking me around when I pushed back he's cry elder abuse then I put a lighter to his green card and his NRI Card and say "Play with me, you will get burned"

My father only spanked/beat me like twice. My grandmother on the other hand. She was a 6' 5 Jamaican. And until she died. She would lay hands on all of her grandkids. Lol. And she didn't care what age we were. Lol.

Yes, there was a lot of physical contact and abuse. I had multiple wrestling matches and fist fights with my dad when I was a teen and even in my early twenties

Well they may do it LoL but it's been 2 years I am far from and whenever I visit they don't seem to be but maybe when I will be staying back with hem me be it will happen but mostly I try not trouble them LoL 😂
