Am I the a**hole for asking my family to hang out with me and my boyfriend for my birthday weekend?

We've been dating for 3 years. They never gave him a chance because of his background and family. For my birthday, they agreed months prior to having us both over for my birthday weekend. But, he didn't *publicly* wish my mother a happy birthday. (Keep in mind, he doesn't wish me happy birthday online either. He hates social media.) So my parents canceled the trip. However, I still want to hang out there, its a tourist place, so we made other plans in the area. I was told Im selfish and they will only see me if I stay at their house and if my boyfriend doesn't go at all.

If your parents agreed to spend time with him, and then cancelled because he didn't write happy birthday on their social media pages. Your parents are way in the wrong. But I am sure there is so much more to this than what your question honestly reveals.

You are not in the wrong from what you say. But your parents still know better than you think. Great wisdom comes from years. Sit the parents and boyfriend down to hash it out with you. You'll find out who cares in that moment.
