Are you looking for an update on the injured fledgling that asked me for help?

The first hour was horrible. She was so weak matted wobbly I thought she would die on the way home. She clung to my hand I don't know with what strength. When we got back refused water or food even tho she obviously dehydrated & starving. After 1 hour she relaxed had some peas i smeared along my arm, hopped on my shoulder and we became great friends.

Subsequently, she was really very unhappy anywhere but on my finger. Tried my best to accommodate but as I did have otter obligations, it was impossible. She wanted was to perch on me 24/7. Happily, today she heard birds chirping & she started to fly (with direction) to the window. This is a very new thing & a huge deal. She is eating by eying the food instead of opening her mouth waiting for me to feed her.

She is now consciously and deliberately using her eyes and now that she is gaining that independence she is less interested in editing for me. Tho she is still very happy to hop on she has larger interests than perching on my finger. Im really encouraged. For now she is eating non stop all day bathing twice a day and has eye drops in the morning & evening. Her new favorite activity is flirting with the boy- sparrows in the yard 💕💕

It's fascinating that little birds gravitate to you. And you are such a good mommy!
Aaya was on death's door when you found her. Now look at her! You saved her life. She looks healthy and happy.
And you found eye drops! It's amazing that she will let you apply them. It shows how much she trusts you.

I don’t know if they gravitate or it’s jist I don’t ignore them, they are probably everywhere? I think most people have this idea of not disturbing nature. But we humans are a part of nature 🤷‍♀️ I’m not going to go trap something and stick it in a cage but if an animal is hurt and wants help so it has a fighting chance at life and I can help, I’d feel like a hole not to.

She is very very trusting. I almost wonder if she didn’t live with a person before but then I’ve never found a bird that wasn’t gentle when it needed help. It’s just she’s improving and is still very sweet. Usually they individuate more with increased confidence.

Of course I voted for "Yes, thank you." This is such a heartwarming story. Your ability to bond with wild birds is amazing, and you really are an angel of mercy. Aayla is very resilient but she needed your help and you provided it. Thank you for the update and the Imgur posts. There's something very profound about both the Althea and Aayla stories.

I'm glad the bird recovered. The post reminded me of a bird a friend and I tried to help. We discovered it on the ground screeching in the middle of the night, so we brought it inside, laid it in a basket, put some strawberry purée and water next to it and went to bed. It was dead by morning.

Most of them die once they take a turn for the worst. This one is very resilient. Sorry you lost the bird, but good of you to try 😊💕

That's great I found a little birdie by the road once when I was a kid and I brought it home but it was too weak and died T_T. It was a lot younger than this though. I'm glad she's doing well :)

Lol I’m not sure. There are like 5 diff things I’m very interested in. History of people how people have lived loved & evolved. Debating. Language. Theater. Philosophy... Helping defenseless beings is just part of me it’s natural like breathing. I’ll do it when I can wherever I am no matter what I get paid to do. I just dk that should be a career choice bc I’ll do it regardless 🤔 I think bc of the environment I’m in I’m helping vulnerable animals. In the city it was vulnerable children. 🤷‍♀️

@VIVANT I respect your LOVE of these helpless creatures, and I, too, have saved a few, here and there.
Sadly, for the ones I couldn't save, or I found dead, on my lot, or in the street, when walking my dog, I picked them up, and brought them home, and gave them, a proper burial, saying a prayer for their safe passage Home. I follow a Native American Way, and all of the animals are messengers, and when I find one dead, I respect their life, and the message they carried to someone, or even to me.

A nestling is a baby bird from the time it hatched to the time right before it leaves the nest. So a nestling is a bent bird that relies on the parents and the nest for security food and everything it requires to stay alive.

A fledgling is a bird that has left the nest. The initial stages of a fledgling are very dependent upon the parent to bring it food and to know where to go. Gradually it learns to find food hide where to sleep and finally, if can fly. A fledgling is a bird that has left the nest up I too the point it can fly away.

A juvenile bird is a bird that has learned to fly seek food shelter but is not a fully developed adult, in it is still learning the ropes of adulthood, I believe based on behavior & physical characteristics, Aayla is on the cusp of fledgling - juvenile 😊
