+1 yMy parents always did everything for my older sister and left me on my own.
They then blame me for not being successful, and use that as an excuse to not help me and only help my sister.
I actually work a lot harder than she does. She told me straight up that they are bad people and she just lies to get money from them.
I am honest, and so I get nothing, and blamed for not having the tools I need to be successful.
My mom's boyfriend threatened to shoot with a real submachine gun. I laughed it off.
I texted her to stop coming to my house or I'd kill her and she said she was afraid for her life, got me locked up in a mental hospital, ruined my life, and then moved in with some new guy in another country before I could sue her for the $20,000 in income it cost me.
Needless to say, I hope they call me someday and say my mom needs someone to pay for a nursing home so I can laugh my ass off and hang up the phone.
My dad lives down the road, makes 6 figures, and won't give me $5,000 to go to CDL school and start making 50k a year. But he's probably spent three times that paying for my sister to go to vet school.
My parents are dirt bags.13 Reply- +1 y
Thanks.
But, my point was that other people's opinions don't matter so much. Some people care, some people are dirt bags.
If they care, they will be proud of you for whatever you choose to do if it goes well or not.
I was given a (temporary) management role at the CFA institute when I was like 18. (A global financial institution)
I worked at the #1 rated 5 star resort in the state.
I was an overnight UVA Ambassador (security guard) on the lawn and the campus right after the riots in Charlottesville.
I flew an airplane.
I built a 1982 Suzuki motorcycle mostly by myself (and paid a mechanic to do the engine)
All before I was 22.
I even got a job for Walmart making $22/hour. That's the one I lost when my mom flipped the bill on me and got me locked up over a text message telling her to stop stalking and harassing me.
They aren't proud of me. My dad is a pawn, my mom is an unsuccessful gold digger.
I wouldn't want to be someone they would be proud of. I wish they would be proud of me for working hard and trying to do good, but they pull the rug out from under me and say it's my fault, then look down on me for not having a lot of money.
It doesn't matter if they are proud of me or not. My Gramma was a real American hero (and mayor) and I know she would be.
Impress the right people. I'm not even sure those jerks are my real parents. - +1 y
Wow, congratulations! You have a LOT of accomplishments. That’s especially impressive since you didn’t have much, if any, support while doing all those things.
It’s a good point that it’s important to look closely at WHO you’re trying to impress. I never thought about that before, but that really does make a difference. It’s true that where certain people are concerned, being someone they admire could actually be a BAD thing.

+1 yI stopped talking to my mother a few years ago. After I got to know my Dad I found I was unable to forgive her for divorcing him. She used her rich dad to hire as many lawyers as it took to get custody and then she just let me rot in front kf the TV while she slept around and drank Beer. She has never apologized for wasting more than half my life.
My Dad on the other hand, kept his spirits up somehow and everytime we were together he tried his best to show me how to be the best me! I cannot begin to understand his sorrow! My father and me have become friends now and he is happy about everything but that he is not a grandfather. It tears me up sometimes thinking I will be unable to get married before he gets to old to play with his grandkids.11 Reply
+1 yYes! I think they are surprised because I have a past.. but my parents do as well, at least my dad was a teen druggie who ended up going to Marquette and becoming a civil engineer.
I have worked at American Eagle, Dick's Sporting Goods, and now 5 Below's corporate offices. :)

Awe thank you! I was never homeless or anything but I had some internal struggles!

I don't have to live for them, I have to do what's the best for me.22 Reply

+1 yMy father went to his grave, partially senile and manipulated by a gold-digger, believing I was not just a complete loser, but that I was a bad person who only sought to use people (to get their money).
It's really fucked up, and yes, the whore took it all when he died. None of my siblings or myself have ever even seen the will.22 Reply- +1 y
It's all good. I mean, it's not, but that's a life lesson right there. Life isn't fair. The laws in my state make it so expensive to compel a will that only the wealthy.. like really wealthy can afford to seek justice.
Rather than dwell on something I couldn't control and can't change doesn't help me one bit, so I chose to move on. Sure the hurt is there, and the lesson sticks with me. There were many lessons learned from that entire experience really.
Unfortunately, it also made me cynical and suspicious.
+1 yThey're both very supportive, but secretly I think they are dissapointed. They don't pressure me or say anything bad but the way they talk about me to others is different to how they did 10 years ago and how they talk about my other siblings who are doing much better.
To be fair I haven't accomplished anything really.10 Reply
+1 yMy parents think im an unappreciative piece of shit despite making six figures and having a family. I call it circle of life. They spent the first 18 years of my life trying to get me out of the house and when that finally happenes they couldnt bring themselves to accept i didn't need them. So im blamed for what they created.

+1 yMy late mom stood beside me to the end but she had to divorce my dad cause
he ran around on her and committed adultery and he married one of the women
he had affair with but I took care of all the bills, making checks out to cover the
cost, I've done a lot in my life in 1993-1996, my mom would make big Sunday
meals to take over to my maternal grandparents cause my grandma wasn't
able to cook and most of the time they would eat sandwiches she had Alzheimer's
disease10 ReplyMy mother continues to tell me how proud she is of me and of the things I achieved in my life, but I owe my success to her constantly encouraging me. She was a single mom and made sacrifice's of her own. I worship the ground that she walks on.
