Will/have you force (d) your children to do menial tasks (not chores) for you because you are just being lazy like our parents did to us?

Growing up I am sure we all experienced it, but you know how your parents would say "bring me a drink" or "bring me the remote control for the tv"? Those are the kinds of menial tasks I am talking about.

Doing stuff like feeding the pets, taking out trash, cleaning, doing the lawn, etc. don't count. I just mean those stupid little things that you want, but just find it easier to make the kids do it so you don't have to move.

I'd have done anything that my mother asked me to do, and without question.

I remember the two of us watching TV in the living room (we only had one TV in the house) and her asking me to bring her a glass of iced tea (or a refill) from the kitchen.

What was I supposed to say? "Are your legs broken?" That never crossed my mind.

In any case, kids have near boundless energy; adults do not, and since you're shoving them full of food (which isn't free), why not put the kids to good use?

There were so many times I WANTED to say that to my dad. With my kids I give them a choice and specifically ask them as a favor. They are allowed to say no if they don't want to do it, but I most definitely do ask.

When I was a kid I loved doing everything 😂my parents bought all the video games I wanted 😂 I could of been outside down the street if someone needed the remote IL run back I got u... what I'm only 7years old u need that tree cut down I got that 🤣... Well those days are over with my beautiful daughter does nothing she says u got two legs dad 😂 I say it's ok I'm used too it anyways I got it 😂😂😂

If I have kids, I'm sure I'll ask them to do that kind of stuff sometimes. Definitely not to the extent my dad made my sisters and I do stuff, but once in a blue moon maybe.

Oh I am totally guilty of it when it comes to drinks. I have a two story house and I am just like.. ugh.. they have way more energy and are already running up and down them anyway lmao

Hell yeah I did, if they didn't. I would spank them.

They had to get up and help with milking cows and feed then, then have breakfast, go to school, come home do farm chores, have supper then help with night milking. Then do homework. Then bed

Right, chores are different. Every kid should have chores. I just meant more like bringing you a drink/snack or throwing away trash or taking your plate out to the sink. Stuff like that.

I'm one of the rare humans who's parents never did this to.

And growing up I used to literally volunteer to do some of the chores because I felt useless not doing anything ever.

And honestly when I moved out I learned all of them within a couple of weeks so it's not like I was incapable of managing

Ha! “Bring me a drink”. That is incredibly lazy of the parents to do all the time but the parents did raise the child so the chances are the baby and the child had the parents doing menial tasks because they were lazy too. It just sounds like payback instead of chores.

No, I would feel like this would be asking a favor of them, just like an adult. Children deserve respect also and if I had them do some trivial task for me, it would be appreciated and not expected or required.

I mean I'd ask anyone to grab me a drink if they're closer. Why not help a friend out? But if it's more like a lost remote or something where the kid is further away than me then I'd just do it myself.

i do that for my dad but that's different. If someone got up to get something we always just asked politely. Dad on the other hand can't get around like that anymore. But when he did he would grab me something to drink same as i would for him.
