We have a guy on a loud motorcycle in our neighborhood who does a similar thing. He usually leaves around 6am and comes home about midnight. A couple people have tried talking to him with no success. We've even tried the police, who talk to him, but it turns out he doesn't violate the noise ordinance because the law only refers to noise between midnight and 6am.
Your guy is a new neighbor and may be okay with you politely talking with him.
Many moons ago, my best friend solved a similar problem by stuffing a potato up the exhaust pipe of the offending guy's noisy car. Not recommending that, but it did quiet things down for a couple days because the car wouldn't start... too much back pressure in the cylinders... until he took it to a mechanic, who found and removed the potato.

You read my mind. A few years ago, my neighbor had her son living with her, and the boy's father bought him a vintage chevy truck. For some reason, in the morning he would go out and start the damned thing and let it 'warm up"! We're not in Minnesota with zero mornings here! Why warm the damned thing up before you go to wherever you are going at 5:00AM!
I never did complain as I just never had the 'balls' to bitch to her or him🤷♂️

Yeah there’s not a lot that’s he’s gonna be able to do about it cause I doubt he’s gonna sell it so unless it’s a mechanical issue that can be fixed like lose exhaust manifolds and you’re willing to help fix it all you’re going to do is get into some bullshit with your neighbor unless maybe he can park in the garage maybe or the other side of the house so there’s at least a buffer cause I have a loud truck that I love and a quiet truck that I love and I try and only drive my quiet truck when it’s sleeping hours but there’s times when I need to take my loud truck I don’t like being rude but as neighbors we all have to put up with each other’s bullshit sometimes but I’m sure if you approach him nicely maybe over a 6 pack or a batch of cookies the two of you could figure out something so everyone can get along odds are you’re not going to walk away completely happy but you’ll probably gain something just remember it’s better to get along with your neighbors than not to get along. Oh yeah sorry to all my neighbors I don’t mean to be an asshole
If his truck really does have a bad exhaust system you could ask him politely if anything can be done about the noise his truck is making,. If he is just getting up early to go to work and his truck is in working order than you should be more understanding.
I live on a major one way street that feeds into downtown, right by a traffic light. The amount of loud pipe drag racing that happens at my son's bedtime is infuriating. Luckily, the police cracked down on it towards the end of the summer, but not everyone has gotten that message yet.
If you find a way, let me know. Our neighbor has a Nissan Skyline that's straight piped and he's REALLY proud of, and he gets home at like 3 in the morning sometimes.
Sorry, but I doubt he will do a thing for you. He likely got the truck that fits his idea of good - - - NOISY! The law can't touch him, so he will keep on doing it. The only thing I can think of is a louder noise to distub him when he is normally sleeping. Like dynamite under his truck!
How loud and what does the "break of dawn" mean? Is his exhaust bad? Is it above the legal noise limit?
by the way that truck in the picture looks almost exactly like one I used to have.Best thing you can do is change your thinking of it. Son’t think of it as annoying. You’re mind will naturally tune it out when used to it. Like living by an airport or train track.
If he is violating the noise ordinances report him to the city.
My town has a quiet time from 10pm to 6am, I'll report people being noisy after 11pm or so, little bit of leeway but if my neighbor noisy until midnight or 2am, I'll be out mowing my lawn at 6am to see how they like it. Maybe even starting up my motorcycle as well.
If it is not outside of any quiet time, all you can do is ask... if your on good terms maybe he'll care, if not... not much you can do.I'm sympathetic, but he's going to have a hard time not starting his truck if that's when he leaves for work. Do you think he has modified the exhaust to make it louder? That may be illegal.
sorry, my stuff is loud too.
I try to drive away quietly; no John Force burn outs in the early hours.
You can speak to him, maybe he doesn't realize that it bothers you.
some trucks, even stock are louder than others, some, might be me, modify everything they own for better performance.I'd try politely telling them that the noise from their truck wakes you every morning and ask them if they can get it fixed. Of course they may tell you to go eff yourself. If that happens, try calling your municipality for assistance. They may have a noise bylaw that covers motor vehicles.
Even if you say something, there's no way he can fix it. When i was younger my dad had one of those jacked up trucks that roared soo loud when he started it and you could hear it when he drove away too.
Wear ear plugs. You can also make a recording and play it back for him when he is trying to sleep.
Look into the local noise ordinance of your city/county. Depending on how loud it is and what time he is doing this it may be a legit noise complaint that you can file. You can also record the noise for your own documentation in case you need to go to court.
"Nice truck you have there. Would be a shame if something happened to it."
:-DI highly doubt he’ll do anything to change it. I know down south these mfs dont give af at all. You’ll hear their big boy trucks all day. My cousins is one of the loudest.
See if your municipality has a 'noise ordinance'. If so... request your local authorities schedule a few early mornings observations to affirm impartiality,
then have the City's attorney send them a formal 'cease & desist' notice threatening civil / criminal penalties.
Kids you spank their ass,
... adults you 'spank' them in the wallet $$$$Starting a truck doesn’t take that long, I’m sure you could go back to sleep pretty fast.. I wouldn’t bring it up and make it awkward between you both for no reason. Different if he kept a loud engine running for like 30 minutes.
I didn't know we lived on the same block because I hear the same damn thing every morning lol.
A part of the problem is that it can sound louder inside your house than outside. This isn't just because of lower ambient noise. The frequency of the engine idling can resonate the air space of rooms inside the house - making it louder inside than outside.
In 10 years time when we're all driving electric vehicles, it will seem bizarre that engines had to idle at all.
