Friend, we all have them but are they really friends or just people we know and hang our with?

We all need to have people in our lives outside of family. What is a "friend" in your opinion?
I know a lot of people which I do hang out with but only when we end up at the same party or dinner but I wouldn't put them in my "friend" circle I would call them acquaintances.
Those I consider and very much cherish as my true friends I've been friends with since elementary school. There are 9 of us and I would do anything for them.
It doesn't seem that now days people value the long lasting friendships. When you have friends that you know have your back and will drop everything for you to be by your side that is what a loyal friend is.
What kind of friend are you?

My friends are my family. When I was younger and lost my job literally all them offered me money if I needed it. They have helped me move for free numerous times. We go to each other's houses for the holidays. Not a single friend I have I wouldn't die for. I think my shortest friendship I have out of my group of friends is 12 years.

Of course they can but if you value those long lasting friendships you will cherish them and as adults do work issues out. At the end of the day there isn't anything that can't be discussed and come to some sort of a common ground. There are those that change and just don't want to see the big picture of friendship/family and just say I'm done.
