It's a universal truth that children do not understand the value in their parents' actions and decisions until those children become parents themselves.
making you responsible to prepare you for the real world
you should be saving money try to rent a place for 150 a month with utilities paid and cable internet and food
Find a guy that will let you live with him for free.
Ya but they would probably expect sex
Every night lol
Yes, so pick a guy whos attractive and would be willing to let you stay for free. Honestly, I think your parents are selfish. As you said, they are well off financially and don't need your rent so it seems like they would be willing to help you out by not hindering your savings. I would do that for my kids especially if I didn't need the money because they need to get ahead financially early on. However, they have a right to do what they're doing because it's their property and their rules. You could get some roommates and try to lower your rent that way. So every night?
Thanks. I’m gonna try and find my own place :)
Do they expect you to do chores or buy your own groceries?
Yes. I do a lot of chores and buy my own food and gas and car insurance and clothes etc etc. I buy everything myself
Find a better job and move out on your own. Then you will wish for the days you lived at home, and it only cost you $150 a month.
Put your big girl pants on and put up or shut up.
Yes it's fair, you're no longer a child and now it's time to fend for yourself, you're lucky to even be getting a place to stay, doesn't sound like your job is liveable I'd recommend a new one
I don't know if it's fair. But it's for your good.
Easy life will make you lazy. Tough life will make you work hard. Working hard will make you value things.
Why wouldn't they charge you rent? You're not in college yet? Lol
Why would you charge the person, who would inherit all you have?
Its like eating bread... Altogether with a pizza! Where is the sense?
It’s fair because now you will know how it is when you move out on your own.
Thankyou ☺️
Your welcome I had to pay 300 a month
Devil's advocate: People don't have problems understanding the concept of paying rent and saving money to do so just as we don't need to get a drivers license everyday to prove you can. It makes more sense to make them save it than just give it away so they know how it "feels."
If anything, you're normalizing the idea that a compensation is required to be sustainable and/or happy.
@Precipice exactly my thoughts. Since they don’t need the money, why don’t they just have me give it to them and they save it for me for my future. That way I’m putting money aside but have it for my future. They don’t agree with me tho
Parents don't always know what's best.
move out im sure plenty of men would house u for free
your parents charge $150 a month? Lucky! My dad charges me $400/month
If it’s comparable to what you would pay for similar accommodations then move out.
I don't think so you being 18, if you moved back at 25 to 30 maybe but not 18.
Get a jobKeep paying the rentSave up Rent your own houseAnd move outProblem solved
just ask if you can pay one of the bills, eg electricity
Honey the world is so much screw up right now best stay where you are
They are teaching you discipline and responsibility.
Yes its fair. MOve out if you don't like it. Would probably cost you a lot more.
Yes is fair. Go to live in somewhere. To see how cost everything 🤷🏻♀️
Welcome to adulthood. Get a better job.
It is fair you are living at their house.
Thankyou 😇
Will they kick you out if you don't pay?
That’s not that much money. You need a better job. You are 18 so stop fooling around.
Even a minimum wage job can yield more money than that. And if they're attending college, they can still fool around until they're 20 to 25.
No, this is madness, they are using you.
How are they using her?
I am surprise she isn’t learning from her parents/situation.
You are so lucky/spoiled!!!
Don’t think you can find anywhere to live that charges $150. a month!!
@midnightmoon05
That's not the point. They make her pay for her inheritance. Who do you think will inherit the place, after the die? Not you or for, for sure.
damned phone!
After they die?* Not you or me, for sure!*
It’s the parents choice to leave or not leave inheritance.
If my children have such attitude, I will not leave them anything.
@midnightmoon05
Poor children then, their parents will leave them not only nothing, but forfeit their property to someone else, just to prove subjective point.
@midnightmoon05
Ever heard of an 'unaccomplished parents'? Those are parents, who think they children owe them everything, because they chose to fuck at said time and place. Not every child is carefully planned. Entitled parents, thinking they know better, only because they are the parents of their own child. Also thinking parenting ends, when the child turns 18 (or 21). But no matter how old you and the child are, you will always be its parent and it will always be its child.
So when i hear mothers saying - i pushed that child for 18 years, now kicked it's ass outta the house, since my job is done - i am rolling eyes over.
I know what you mean… I heard that in the US…
Parents job is never done!!
Also the responsibilities and commitment to raise children to become successful societal contributors are a whole different level than just raising children.
We can have many afternoon tea to discuss these topics.
I have never heard of unaccomplished parents. I learned something in g new ;)
I have two and my daughter (14) is attached and needy… I do push her to be better but never to be needy…
Self efficient… happy, successful, well rounded, kind…etc…
So far both kids have no interest in wanting our money for free… they know like anything else… they have to work to eat it.
Grow with them, listen to them, challenge them and be there for them based on their age group…
I told them… our doors will always be open for them… however they must understand that they have to live and respect themselves and us… etc…
Hope you are having a good day Miss. Ava Cheers
@midnightmoon05
"Our doors are always open for them. (after they pay up :D )
Let's not forget, i am 18. What i last wrote, was something i've heard from my mother.
So i might not have strong/good point.
Things have gone up n 4 years...
Yup hustle for better job that's all you can do
Their house their rules
True
I paid $250 a month, you're lucky.
100% normal, my parents did it to me
get a job and grow up.
Dude days inn is cheaper than that
That's stupid and petty on your parents part. Smh.
I make almost 400 a week? What job you have?
The real question is what job do youuu have
Im a cartboy at meijer and make 13.25 a hour and work 33 hours a week with school
Yeah, probably.
My parents considered charging me rent for a while but never actually did. The point is, if you're an adult and have a job and can make your own living, they shouldn't have to pay your way anymore and you should be helping them out. If you don't HAVE a job, you SHOULD get out and get one!! You also should learn that life is not the free ride you had during your first 18 to 20-some years.
It’s fair
Thankyou 🙂
I'd never do that to any child of mine.
YES YOU'RE 22 LMAO
life is unfair
True
Get a better job.
I’ll look into one thanks :-)
Yes.
That's mean.
Not much you can do
Welcome to adulthood
Sounds about right
No honestly
I think no
Are you working
