When I was approaching 17, my dad tried to spend my birthday at the beach, when I wanted to go out to eat (it was only gonna be Dairy Queen). I have told people many times that I hate the water, and my dad had a history of making me do what he wants on MY birthday (my whole family actually), but he never gives me anything as a gift. When I refused to go to the beach, he told me I was making a big mistake, and I'd pay for not going. On the day of my birthday, I walked out of my room that morning, only to have a huge bucket of yogurt dumped on my head! I didn't want to celebrate my birthday after that moment, but my mom had made it up to me by taking me to Dairy Queen and throwing me a secret party in the garage with my younger siblings.
Looking at it now, I'd say I just laugh at it. I mean I've never had a good birthday because of my dad, and neither have my younger siblings. I just hope in the future, I will actually get to enjoy my birthday.
