Would you trust a at home gender reveal test to accurately predict the gender of your baby?

I'm gonna be doing one of these test in a few days to find out the gender of my baby. I'm not sure if I fully trust it since it's a at home test and can be contaminated if a lot of male DNA is in the house (which I have 4 males living in my house) so I'm a little worried it might get contaminated. Also I'm very early so worried that could throw it off too.

If y'all were having a baby would you trust something like a at home test to give you accurate results? Or would you wait till you go to the doctors to find out the gender?

I wouldn't trust it fully, no, but I'd still do it just for fun... assuming it's not insanely expensive. I don't have children so I don't know what the time frames are, but if I were going into the office at 20 weeks to find out the gender, but I could take the test at 18 weeks, I'd do the at-home test and see how accurate it is.

The test can be done at 6 weeks and it cost me 85$

Probably not, it would be fun but I doubt it will accurately tell you the gender. I would just wait until the doctors tell me (in my case, I would rather they dont but since you want to know, it's probably for the best).

We did the "surprise" at birth gender reveal so I don't know much about these tests but gut says best to wait and have the doctor do it at the right time vs. an early at home test. Might be a pain to wait a little longer but think be worse if the at home test is wrong.

No I would not they may be accurate to a certain point just like a doctor looking at a sonogram. But they are never 100% accurate. For my kids my wife and I wanted to he surprised which to me made it really fun picking out names and choosing neutral colors.

If you have a gender reveal party and the child comes out as the opposite gender, are you going to have the doctors perform a gender alteration surgery?

I wouldn't bother with a test, you will find out sooner or later, I must assume gender doesn't influence if you keep it or not.

Takes too long with doctors. I'd rather keep it a surprise if not taking this test. And yes keeping it either way

Nurse here. Unless that little kit has an ultrasound tech and a physician stuffed in there, you're not going to know a damn thing.

It's a blood test that goes to a lab with what I assume is doctors or scientists checking the blood

I found the paper they published online and 99.9% is a big claim. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'd believe it.

I’m curious why even get one. If it’s for fun like those dna tests in the mail sure why not. But if your one of people can one have one gender or else then a dna test for a no do over decision is real fucked up.

No way. I gotta see it on the ultrasound. Too much could go wrong. If this test isn’t accurate and I paint an entire room pink for a baby that turns out to be a boy, I’d be pretty furious that I made my wife do all that painting.

What’s the reason for using this test? Are you unable to have an ultrasound?

They can't detect on a ultrasound that early. I won't even get into the doc till 12 weeks. This test can be done at 6 weeks

We did one, but also had it confirmed at the clinic. It was correct for us.

I'm only on 4. And with twin girl/boy it'll show as boy cuz the male DNA is there. Same thing will happen with a doc nipt test. They will have to do ultrasound to confirm if it's two boys in there or boy and a girl

It'll be fun to try it out but I would just go see the doctor for that to make sure the baby is okay and to get his gender. And you can't really tell unless you go to get an ultrasound.

I was worried it would be off so I did the NIPT test.

I personally refused to do the nipt test cuz I don't want anything to be wrong and they try talking me into terminating the pregnancy. Also don't want the stress during my pregnancy. Would rather find out about a genetic problem later on. I get some people just do for gender but I couldn't

Not as much as a proper test, but it's probably reasonably accurate. Probably says the probability of success in the fine print even.

My aunt used to put a pencil on a string and see which way the pencil spun to know the gender of the baby.

There's many reasons like chimerism, which is a somewhat commen birth condition where parts of the body will say different things with a dna test, and Puberty tends to bring hormone changes

I voted NO, but in this day and age it really doesn't matter, because you can just choose their gender yourself
