They say its only for illnesses but it will soon change.
I thinks its fine, it starts out as preventing diseases, then paves the way for splicing and super abilities.

When you do IVF you are inevitably making multiple embryos and will implant only one of them so I do find it reasonable to screen and test those for traits that the parents like.
Physical traits like eye color, skin tone, height etc are multifactorial and some are even influenced by the environment, so I don't think we will be able to pick those traits in children anytime soon. So worrying about it now, in my opinion, is just falling into the slippery slope fallacy. Even in my college-level genetics class we learned how complicated these factors can really be.
I do know that people can and do select the sex of their children if they want a balance of boy/girl, and I remember a fertility doctor who was undergoing IVF treatment herself sharing her journey of trying for another daughter after she already had a daughter and a son, because she believed that girls need a sister.
You won't be able to stop people from wanting what they want, and given how tedious and expensive IVF treatments are I highly doubt anyone would realistically keep undergoing this treatment again and again until they get the perfect model-like genius super baby. Anyone in that position would just be happy to select an embryo that's healthy and good.
I have no issues whatsoever with it.
I'd much rather terminate a severely disabled child early then bring it into this cruel world where people point, laugh & abuse disabled people.
I work in medical - addiction & mental health - and I will be extremely blunt.
Very few people legitimately care for disabled persons very few... mostly their family & friends and almost everyone else is nothing but a worthless asshole towards them. A pathetic venture to make their inferior selves seem superior by diminishing others. And the most typically abusive ones are the highly religious who will condemn a mother for aborting such a child but offer absolutely no assistance whatsoever - even treat her & child like a leper - if she were to keep her child the nasty hypocritics that they are.
So yes I see no issues whatsoever. It is a mercy than bringing a child who is disabled into this inhumane world.
If you get your genetics tested then it can reveal many things about you and your partner such as the kinds of foods you should be eating, and the kind of diseases esp. cancers that you are succeptable to. It can also tell you about if you are carrier of any genetic disease or disorder and if you were to have a child what are the chances that your child will have it also.
Duh there's a movie about it lol.. don't watch true story shits sci-fi is the best way to describe our past present and future
Have you seen the Gattaca movie? I remembered that speaking of this topic. And my opinion? I don't know I'm a biology major so science and genetics especially is an amazing field but yeah there is also the other side to it
Slippery slope, but it's also helpful. It's a very difficult line to walk.
Anyone trying to pick what their child will look like are disgraceful and do not deserve kids
It's inevitable and disturbing. I have to think it will lead to "designer babies".
Oh, good, GATTACA.
Forewarned is forearmed.
It is borderline creepy.
