Do you believe mandatory paternity tests should be done at birth?

Came across some questions lately where some women responded to it as a violation of trust between mother and father. I would say it is as well, especially if the dad may in fact NOT be the father. What's the issue?

Not like you have anything to hide, right? Why get worked up over having one done?

Given the state of marriage/long term relationships today I would say that mandatory paternity tests should be a must, I would go as far as it to be a legal requirement, as there are too many husbands/partners, bringing up/be financially responsible for those children up to the age of 18, that they have no genetic ties to, especially if the wife/partner is going to be able to claim benefits if their husbands/partners are serving in the military.
But I doubt that it will ever happen because feminists/women's groups will actively lobby against is and has happened in France paternity tests have been made illegal without the mothers consent.

It is better it is mandatory and/or customary. Certainly at divorce.

I've known some horror cases. E. G. Girl goes on girls trip. Gets pregnant on girls trip. Forgets to mention to boyfriend. Decides she doesn't like being a mom. Leaves for parts unknown and leaves baby with the non-dad. So there he is raising a daughter as a single who has no genetic link to him.

Now we can be certain why shouldn't we be certain. Can be done before birth now.

Nah not if the couple says no. If they want it done then they can personally go do that. If it was forced I'd just have my baby at home cause I refuse all testing done on newborns

No I don’t believe mandatory paternity tests should be done at birth. If a couple decides to have one done, fine, but not because of some government mandate to do it.

I don't disagree with the principle. Logistically would there be the capacity in labs and who picks up the bill? Watching Maury back in the day some cases would need multiple tests assuming mothers were truthful.
There should certainly be more accountability for paternity fraud, women should have to be open about the possibility of other fathers. And men shouldn't automatically be responsible for a child due to marriage if there are any doubts.

I do. Paternity fraud is actually very common, and mandatory tests would help reduce that. It's difficult for a father to ask for one because it's essentially saying he doesn't trust her. If they were mandatory it would take the "blame" off of him.

Would love to see it but I remember hearing it was once a thing in Canada maybe? Quickly fell off a cliff.. also men should know you can get paternity tests before the kid is born w simple blood draws.

No, absolutely not. Part of the appeal of pregnancy for a woman is the possibility of having someone else, other than the biological father of the child assume legal and financial responsibility for her new baby.

Well , the number of guys who are raising someone else's baby is definitely increasing, but I don't know if we are there yet.. tbh if that becomes a thing it shouldn't be a problem.. it'll do more good than bad..

Yes, saves a world of trouble for men and if it ruins the relationship because the guy finds out he's not the dad, that's just something the mom will have to deal with.

It seems like one of those things that will become a moot point as full genome sequencing becomes widespread to facilitate designer health care. As that happens it will be immediately obvious whether or not there is a paternal link.

Probably yeah. Shouldn't be necessary but is as everyone has the right to know who their father is
