Most of the time I feel better being at work where I can't see or hear them

Yes this is normal. My pastor said he sometimes wished he was still single during a bible study because he always has responsibilities and is not his own person anymore after marrying. But of course being alone all the time is not the same thing as being alone once in a while. If your kids are small, they will grow up and be easier to manage so you can wait for that.
