That's like asking whether a watermelon is a lemon or a strawberry. It was the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil; it's not supposed to correspond to any other fruit (save, perhaps, the one Gilgamesh failed to protect from the snake, which would indicate it was a fruit made of meat, since snakes are carnivores). Also, neither pomegranates nor apples are native to the area where Eden was supposed to be located; both are from further east, though it's possible that both had made it that far by 4,000 BC.

Neither. Most likely it's not a fruit that exists today. But the much more probable answer is that the Bible is not literal.
