Does visiting the hospital on the first day of birth cause discomfort to the mother?

Depends on what the mom wants. Personally I never want anyone visiting me in the hospital or even seeing us after once we are home. Unless they are there to do some chores or help babysit my other kids then no they aren't allowed to just come see the baby. (I had family visit after my 1st son and it was a nightmare so never again)

I wouldn't visit on the first day, just cause I personally would like to give them little space... you should ask tho and also it depends on your relationship, if you're like the sister then it's something else but if you're just a friend, no matter closeness, I would wait a few days

It would depend on the mother and the complexity of the birth. For my 2nd child, it was a bit rough for my wife, there was a few issues, which I won't address. She wanted nothing to do with anyone other than me and my daughter. Viisiting the first day would have been off the table, but for my 3rd, she was fine with it.
