Not sure if I'm overthinking?

Hello,

I've been with my boyfriend a long time. 5 years to be exact. The other day we went to a his family's house for a dinner party. I was sitting at the end of the table. He was to my right, then his mom and his dad and everyone else around this big table. I asked my boyfriend if he wouldn't mind grabbing some more of this food for me. It was in the middle of the table near his mom. He seemed to get annoyed and told me I could get up and get it. I tried explaining that I couldnt reach it because it was between his mom and dad. I would have to go behind them and try reaching between them.. So he proceeded to get up from his seat thinking that would give me more space to reach it. He later told me he would of had to reach across his mom to get it. It was just an awkward situation and I dont see why he would get annoyed.

On a side note, I feel that some of you will say I could have just asked his mom to get it. There is a language barrier between us. His mom only knows a little English. I didn't know what the dish was called and trying to ask her to pass me something makes me feel awkward within a large group of people
