Let me rephrase the question.

Would you rather be broke (albeit having a job and making more money), or would you rather have your family (parents, siblings, spouse) and friends all killed?

I already lost both, got big lucky in my early years and could live off investments, lost it all. Money you will always get back in time if you work hard, your loved ones never come back.

I have lost both. It wasn't easy but I got over Losing money. I never got over Losing my family members, pets and friends.
