What would you do if your boyfriend/ husband demanded a paternity test before signing the birth certificate?

I realize I'm a guy. But I still feel like I can answer this. (Accurately too).

So, if there is any reason that paternity is genuinely in question, then it's appropriate. So if you BOTH know that she was sleeping with other people around the time of conception then it's totally fair to demand a birth certificate. She has no choice but to understand why you would want to know. Because there is no legitimately no way for you to be sure... given the fact that she WAS sleeping with someone else around that time.

Now, if you mean, "in general"... like as in a "normal situation" where a couple is together, and then that couple has a child together. Where the only way you aren't the father is if she was cheating... then it's wildly innapropriate and offensive beyond words for you to demand a paternity test. It's not a good idea.

What you would be saying... to your girlfriend/wife by demanding a paternity test is clearly:

"I don't believe this child is mine you lying cheating whore".

So, unless that's what you're trying to say... DO NOT demand (or even ask for) a paternity test.

If you partner knows you have reasons to not trust them... that's different. But this is apt to ruin a marriage if you demand this for no good reason.
