Imagine you gave a person a gift the day before their birthday because they wanted a phone and you know they can use it tomorrow. You two speak everyday and wish each other goodnight but that evening they start ignoring you, not even a goodnight then in the morning of their birthday it continues. Would you still wish them happy birthday?

I would say happy birthday. After the actual day. I would have a conversation with them about my feelings. If we can have a rational conversation and there's an explanation for the behavior that I accept than we can still be friends. If they try to gaslight me and don't accept responsibility or tell me that my feelings are my problem then we can't be friends. At that point I would act accordingly

I’d still say happy bday and I’d still treat them if they are immediate fam or a significant other. Anyone else wouldn't even get #1 out of me

I'd say happy birthday anyways, what they choose from there is up to them but they shouldn't expect me to stay friends with them if they do me wrong
