My husband wants to live next door to his best friend. Should I discourage this?

My husband and I are moving out of our apartment and into a house. The house next door to his best friend is for sale. It's an OK house in a nice neighborhood, but I'm not so sure I'd want to live so near his best friend.

For one thing, it's his best friend's parents' house. His best friend lives in the basement. He's unemployed and not currently seeking employment. From what I can tell, he stays home and plays video games all day.

I fear that if we live next door my husband will go straight there and basically end up living at his house. In college, my boyfriend failed a few classes because his best friend would convince him to skip lectures and studying, and I'm afraid my husband might skip work in order to spend time with his best friend (it's happened before).

Also, his best friend often showed up at our apartment unannounced and asking for food. If he lives next door, I envision many dinners for three.

I'm trying to convince my husband to find a house in a nearby neighborhood so he can still visit easily, but he called me an anti-social stick-in-the-mud b*tch. What should I do?

I definitely don't think its a good idea to move next to his best friend. His best friend doesn't sound like the best influence on him. Have you told your husband all of your reasons? I think that this is just one of those situations that you need to put your foot down and make the mature decision in order to save your marriage (3 people all the time can't be that intimate) as well as your husband's job.

The house is OK and a decent price. It's not perfect but it has most of the things we're looking for. But I think we could find that one or two neighborhoods over as well.

Too many cons for me. Especially if you can find one a couple of neighborhoods away.

I would only consider it IF it was better transportation wise.

One never knows who their moving next to but in this case it doesn't sound good to me.
