What “rights” do parents have on us?

Not legally, because after 18 we’re independent adults (supposed to be). But my parents keep reminding me how they raised me and I should heed to their expectations. And of course I didn’t say fck off. Of course…

So as a child, your parents have the right to send you to a school that implements their values. They have rights to ground you. They have rights to give you a spanking. They have rights to take you to church or not take you to church. They even have rights to refuse medical care like in the case of Christian scientist.

It's your life. You are responsible for your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Nobody else is responsible for that. If they don't understand that they are ignorant or bad people. You have a right to live your life how you want. Everyone else is given that right once they are an adult.

Generally speaking, parents have earned a level of respect and authority over you even when you are an adult, but it's not a right of theirs. However, it's your call at the end of the day of what to do with your life and treat others.
