The Parents Bill of Rights — which has passed the House — would require public schools to disclose all curricula, reading lists, library books and budget costs, as well as force administrators and teachers to seek parents’ consent before changing a child’s gender status.

+1 yI don’t see any problem with that. At the end of the day, the legal parents should have more say in how their children are raised than the schools or the government… I remember the school system tried to put my daughter back a grade just based off her birthdate not her intellect. I did go to the school board and was able to stop the school from doing that but not before pulling her out of the school after a bogus meeting even though they had already made up their minds. I bring it up because at the end of the meeting, when we stated we were pulling her from the school, one of the teachers said she was sorry to hear that because she wouldn’t learn social skills without school. I disagree. That should be taught by the parents in my opinion. Fun fact, we were late to said meeting because I had to go back in the house and call 911 because their was a fight going on with 20+ kids from the high school in our neighborhood, in cars, lined up on the sidewalk, we could barely get out of our driveway… Yeah some social skills the schools taught those kids 🙄

@Brainsbeforebeauty see you're a good example of not understanding how the educational system works. If your daughter was actually intelligent she would be integrated a grade ahead regardless of her age. The school was trying to move her back because she literally did not fit into the class that she was applying for. And they were attempting to keep her from falling behind and or being her bullied Etc.
Otherwise why there are even 16 year olds in university classes?
Because they're legitimate intelligent, not because their arrogant parents think they are. - +1 y
@Brainsbeforebeauty "Yeah some social skills the schools taught those kids"
It's not the responsibility of school teach social skills, that's the responsibility of their worthless parents.

This shouldn't even be an issue. Schools and parents should be working together. I remember a time when teachers would complain that parents weren't involved enough in their children's education. No more! Now it's "don't worry about what they're learning". Because of this, a parents bill of rights has my support.

+1 yIt sounds good in theory, but there’s a terrible misconception going around that people know what’s best for the common population, much less for themselves.
Any idiot can have children, and many of these parents ARE idiots, yet they think being a parent has made them a special class of citizen or just think they possess some wisdom others don’t. Beyond being dumb, they’re often lazy. I’d tell my parents things I learned, and if they disagreed, they’d take the time and effort to explain. I may or may not have embraced their takes, or may or may not grown up to embrace them, but they did the required heavy lifting of parenting. Not everyone wants to do that. They want the teachers to teach and basically raise their kids, but they want to dictate what the teachers teach them. Also, not everyone is going to agree on what should or shouldn’t be taught, books in the curriculum, etc. But some other parent’s kid shouldn’t have to miss out on exposure to literature or ideas just because someone else’s parent didn’t like it and was the loudest yeller at the PTA meeting. Most of these people making a stink are Bible thumpers or white people who want to ignore the ugly side of our country’s history and current society because it makes them uncomfortable or defensive. Homeschool your kid or send them to Holy Roller Academy if you want them to be freaks who don’t believe in dinosaurs, I don’t give a shit, but don’t disrupt public education with that fuckery. Your morals and values don’t have to be everyone else’s morals and values. No one has to adjust to you, and you can act however and believe whatever you want, but that can absolutely, positively not be woven into the fabric of general society, because it’s just not everybody’s deal.

Not secret, necessarily, and I’m not saying there should be zero parental input. I’m just saying if we let every Karen or Captain Christian run the show just because they cause the most uproar about it, we’re really limiting education, and in some cases, creating hostile (or at very least, non-compassionate) environments for some students. Some teacher got fired for showing maybe the most famous statue of all time because of stone dick and balls, and some whacko decided that was pornographic because little Jimmy or Jenny couldn’t possibly catch a glimpse of a likeness of an organ for reproduction, and more often, excretion, that roughly half of the humans on Earth are walking around with, probably because of some Puritanical sexual hangup.
+1 yI don't want a bill of rights in government schools. I want school choice. Liam, if you had a teaching certificate, I would send my kid to you to learn. In my state, you'd get $18,000 per kid. If you had the space in your home for 10 kids, you'd be getting some jingle in your pocket. A few states have already started this, and I hope more states catch on. Give the parents school vouchers, and let them shop for adequate teachers/schools. Government schools are a HUGE failure.
I don't have a kid, but if I did, I would grill your ass to see if you are worthy of teaching my kid..
Liam...

As a result of this, government schools, and all the pedophiles that run them, would be out of business.

+1 yWhat is this going to achieve except for another era of book burning?
A principal was recently forced to resign over all things Michelangelo's David. Yes there was a problem with the school not sending flyers telling parents, but it's history and culture the kids were being taught not pornography as some of the idiotic simple minded / uneducated parents said it was.
This is just going to allow parents to complain about and have removed from the educational system everything from biology to physics to chemistry to world history and everything in between that is actually important. All because it offends these parents delicate sensibilities in their own uneducated simple-minded stupidity.
If they were actually good parents after all they would talk to their children, they would talk to fellow students, they would talk with teachers and the principals about their children schooling. And they would learn and contribute to their child education. But that's asking too much.
I mean that's what my parents did, they were always involved in my education. From helping with schooling and homework to engaging the teachers.
But then a lot of parents think being involved in their child's education means ranting at the teachers like a moron, having a tantrum like a two-year-old, and generally being a douchebag

+1 yLOL It's always been available to parents, if they cared enough to pay attention like mine did! No curriculum was hidden, there's an annual school budget meeting open to the public, which usually takes many meetings to work out!. You could walk into ANY school library as a parent, at ANY time without an appointment, and see what was on the shelves. No school administrator was EVER legally allowed to prevent a parent from knowing what was being taught in schools.
These bills are not meant to give parents "awareness", but rather to selectively restrict a student's ability to access a variety of materials, and to restrict the concept of critical thinking at a time when kids are most curious.
Two final thoughts:
1) If you're a PARENT, and the first time you hear about, or suspect that your child has gender questions, is from a school - you're one oblivious, shitty ass parent!
2) Quoting the NY Post as a source is the equivalent of learning philosophy from a bathroom stall wall.
So basically, these bills are unnecessary and redundant. It's the same reason Congress cited for NOT passing the ERA bill when they claimed it was already covered by the Constitution. Considering too how Republicans constantly claim that "less government is better", why do they want MORE unnecessary government like these bills?
Nothing in the curriculum is being kept secret - tell me how that's even possible when everyday they come home with homework and their textbooks? LOL

+1 yI want would to see, after seeing how school boards are mishandling evening, having parents thrown out of school board hearing, thinking they are almighty, it is our tax dollars, and they are our kids, we should have rights, when you start seeing what teachers are saying and teaching kids, telling them not to bring home paperwork so parents don't see it, handing out sex test to minors. Yes parents need more of a voice. These aren't the same school from the 50's to the 90's. The democrats are trying to indoctrinated, and the colleges are even worst.

+1 ySo let me get this straight. Schools have to give a complete list of every book in the library to parents so a bunch of Karens can whine about them? Second a parent spots "The origin if the species" on the list they'll demand it's removed. History books they don't agree with, bye bye. I doubt schools will even risk buying science books. Parents are too dumb to be given power like that.

I agree, a lot parent hinder their child's education. If they want that much control - homeschool!
- +1 y
Do you think that young children should be taught in government schools how to suck a cock?
I know you're too much of a troll to answer. - +1 y
It's not just the "Origin of species", there are books about little Jack and Jill going up on the hill to fuck each other's brains out. They even have pictures
Then little Joe comes in with his huge cock and peaks Jack's interest
"Can I put this inside me?", Jack said with a grin - +1 y
I doubt if there is a requirement to provide parents with a complete list of all the books in the library. Although I don't see why parents shouldn't be allowed access if they want it.
I think it's more about allowing parents access to lesson plans. Keeping it secret indicates that the school is doing something subversive that it doesn't want parents knowing about.
Parents should also know if a teacher is trying to make their grammar school child question their gender or make "trans"sexuality seem cool and attractive.
And I doubt if one complaining parent would be enough to have a book removed. But if a lot of parents objected to, say, sexually explicit material, that should make a difference. - +1 y
@purplepoppy because teachers are so smart — I remember being in college and overhearing professors snicker about how dumb the College of Education students were. Having met enough teachers, I can confirm the professors were correct.
I don’t really want dumb, brainwashed teachers having complete control over my child’s curricula
+1 yI'm not sure what you mean by "Parental Bill of Rights".
If you are referring to a specific initiative or project related to the defense of fathers' rights, you may need more information to better understand the issue being discussed.
In general, it is important to recognize that parents have legal and moral rights in relation to their children, including the right to make decisions on their behalf and to maintain a meaningful relationship with them.
However, in some cases, conflicts around parental rights can arise, such as in cases of custody, visitation, support, and other issues related to paternity.
It is important that the rights of parents are balanced with the rights and interests of children and that decisions are made that favor the well-being and protection of children.
00 ReplyI do not see a problem with it, because it simply gives parents more control over how their kids are being educated.
Most parents probably won't do anything because they are too busy with life.
I do see problems if the school is changing a childs gender at school, or a school wants to hide the curriculium. All this should be public to begin with, book lists, budget costs. Why hasn't it been made public to begin with?
Only a liberal would think more freedom is fascism.
10 Reply5.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Other than the gender stuff (which would've rightfully been heckled as a bad joke at the time), it's literally the same standard the public school I attended held itself to.
I don't see a single good argument against it. Even the school choice argument (which I support) doesn't really act as a preventative measure, or set the foundation to punish offenders.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yThe Parents Bill of Rights has been met with controversy and criticism for several reasons.
Firstly, some argue that the bill is unnecessary as parents already have the right to access information about their child's education and make decisions on their behalf.
Secondly, the bill's requirement for public schools to disclose all curricula, reading lists, library books, and budget costs could be seen as burdensome and time-consuming for school administrators and teachers.
Thirdly, the provision that requires administrators and teachers to seek parents' consent before changing a child's gender status has been criticized as discriminatory towards transgender students and could potentially violate their rights.
Overall, the bill has been met with concerns about its potential impact on the autonomy of public schools and the rights of students, particularly those in marginalized communities.10 Reply

+1 yPUBLIC school should be the bare minimum required to adult. Read, do basic math, know a few things about history and science... go the fuck home. It's supposed to be a safety net for people who would not have their kids educated. Anything more than that go to a fucking private school or continue on to college if you're smart and capable enough.
As in ALL public services they are not very efficient nor do they cater to a large portion of people. To make it a catch all like public school will be good for everyone... that's a fool errand and impossible yet we all have to pay for all this bullshit.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yThe Dems are screaming about this because this 'free choice' it isn't their 'free choice' and goes against the dogma that they have been pushing for the last 10 years and the teachers that have been programmed by the universities over the same time period will be forced to teach the classic curricula without the CRT/Pro-LGBTQ+ BS.
If I still lived in the US and had a family all of the kids would have been home schooled at least to the level that they could think for themselves, the exact opposite of what teachers want of students today.00 Reply6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. It's the other thing it does. Namely, it makes public schools just a little harder to teach and learn in, without increasing funding to hire more staff to deal with it. The idea is to get everyone to give up and decide maybe just letting rich for-profit schools have all the money is easier.
00 Reply2.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'd like to know more about what they ARE being taught. It seems that we only hear about getting those crazy people away from out children and that are SO DAMN interested in their private parts and the teachings thereof.

We have on the books emancipation of minors and logically we can expand those rights of individuals (soon and very politically motivated voters.)
Lliam I'm sure you worked at a few jobs in your day. Your nametag at work never had to be the same as your tax social security number recognized. Every place of work ask you man to man "What's your name?" and respected that without question. Is it really that hard for a school to respect any other individual the same way?

Don't play dumb why people are upset about the bill.
Every time someone ask you "what's your name?" Did you say it with a sense of pride? Do you believe everyone should have that feeling saying who they are? Some names are given some names are carved by life choices. All should be respected. - +1 y
Molestation of children more often then not happen with trusted family members. Also trusted church leadership. I'm in Alaska the most dangerous state for women in general.
Schools and sex education are the single best ways to protect children. It's only after learning new words about whats right and wrong about sexual abuse can any child ask for help.
Your methodology protects and harbors pedophiles with dominating and isolation of children. An exposure of sexualitys helps children grow up and learn whats right and wrong with resources to ask for help.
