Does anyone else have dogs and cats that are best friends?

My dog Aspen and cat Jackie are pretty much best friends. Aspen was born in December 2020 and Jackie was born in April? 2021; we caught her from the wild over the summer that year. Pretty soon, Jackie became pretty attached to Aspen. She would always cuddle with her and apparently picked up on the dog’s maternal instinct and love of kittens, because Jackie would suckle on her nipples and Aspen would let her.

Now, the dog can be outside or in the bedroom with the door closed and Jackie will wail pitifully outside the door because she is so attached to the woofer.

Every time they’re around, Jackie will surround Aspen by leaning against her, wrapping her tail around her, and cuddling with her vying for her attention and licks.

Meanwhile, the first cat, Cleo (found as a one month old kitten in February 2021), had her initial spats with the overzealous dog who would take all the attacks brought her way. After kittenhood, Cleo is a very sleepy and solitary cat who would rather nap all day than socialize for more than one minute.

Either way, they all have and will grow up and age with each other.

Let me settle this misnomer once and for all. Dogs have nothing against cats. When you see a dog chasing off a cat, the dog is not chasing off the cat from that place because it is a cat. He is chasing it because, IT IS AN INTRUDER, he would even chase you off from there if he does not know you, and you are no cat. So once the dog is made friends with the cat , there is will no problem what so ever, it's absolutely the same as with any human being and the dog. Further, once the dog accepts the cat, the cat becomes part of the dog's pack in the dog's mindset and then he will defend that cat as he protects any part of his turf.
I have always had dogs and cats living together. I had a female cat (Russian blue breed) who gave birth in front of my dog and the first thing that this little new born kitten saw was this mountain of a malamute, ( giant Alaskan husky). Both these fellows were just inseparable. I have never seen the amount of love two friends can have for each other. The kitten grew up to be a solid and massive Tom cat. He would fight with the other toms in the area for dominance and mates everyday and would come home covered with bites head to toe. But when he came in, even if you called him he would just ignore you and run and cuddle with his giant ( 130 lbs) dog friend. Only after he had, had his cuddle fill with his first friend would he then come to meet and greet you. I could show you a whole lot of their cuddling snaps, but you can't post snaps in these replies, what a BUMMER !!!
So I hope I put that one to rest, however, sometimes as in any relationship, the dog and cat may not hit it off for some reason. In such cases they will just be civil and be quietly compatible and not all that cuddly, but the dog will still take the cat as part of his pack and guard and protect it with his life.

I had two cats. They did not get along at first but later became inseparable. They used to chase each other around the house. I left them outside on the deck during the day. A coyote came in the yard and carried one of them into the woods and killed him. The other one was never the same after thst.

My first cat Poppy and my childhood dog Daisy were very close. They used to both like to snuggle with me while I was doing homework.

I think Daisy was really sad when Poppy passed away. Later I adopted my next cat Mia, and they tolerated each other but never got that close. Mia is very particular about who she likes though.

I just lost my friend, "Oliver" last October, after 18 years... and It does leave a hole in your heart to lose them.

I have. It was Jeanie a toy fox terrier and Sabrina a Siamese cat. They romped and played and slept together

I had another that was Nisha a Pomeranian and Skittles a Russian Blue. They played every once in a while but were never as playful as the above

My Bernese Mountain Dog and cat are the same way, my Pug-man is somewhat afraid of the Cat but they play all the time.

I have two cats and one dog. Both the cats get along with the dog, but the one cat loves on the dog all the time. It's so cute.
