How do you feel about family asking for too many favours?

Ok guys like I get it. We’re family. We do stuff for each other.

But I think there should be boundaries.

My aunt (who isn’t blood related to me), is getting paid to translate something I guess.

Funny thing is she can’t speak the language so she texted me asking to translate some stuff for her.

Best believe it took a while but I did it because she’s my aunt and I felt bad.

Next thing you know she’s asking for more…lol 😢

She’s basically using me to get paid. I can’t make this up.

I just feel like there should be boundaries. Even though I’m your niece and we’re family. There should be boundaries.

Split the pay or quit helping. I have a good bit of extended family who asked for more and more, then tried stealing when I wouldn't give it. Great aunts asking me to drop the charges and what not, but not willing to ask their sons to give me my tools back, or the money to replace them.

The more you give, the more entitled people will get, and the higher the likelihood is that things will go from uncomfortable to straight ugly. Never in my life have I been screwed over by strangers like I have by family.

So, I don't feel anything about it, if we're willing to help each other that's fine. Asking is free though, likewise I have no reason at all to help unless one is presented to me.

Indeed, you have your own needs, wants, and hobbies to achieve in your free time. She isn't being considerate of that already, get some of the pay on principle so she has motivation to even try and find other solutions, and give some respect to your time and effort. I get helping her for free to get started, but from your description you're going to be the engine driving her business...

The problem with what your aunt is doing is that it is dishonest if her clients think she is the translator. If she wants help, perhaps she could incentivize you to translate while she gets clients and the two of you could make a business of it. Otherwise, this is not sustainable.
