Why do we need to respect and love our parents?

Why do people tell us teens to respect, obey, and love our parents as if our parents are our real family?

Other teens are my real family because they are like me. They care more for me than my parents so I listen to and love other teens and not my parents.

By the way, I am a 17 year old boy who loves watching sports. After I graduate highschool, I want to separate from my parents as soon as possible. My girlfriend and my friends also want to separate from their parents as soon as they finish highschool. Also, I hate romance movie.

Yeah, I've been there kid. Parents can annoy the Hell out of you, make you mad at them, because you're not getting what you want. My best friends knew exactly what I went through and understood me when I self-harmed.

My Mom never knew.

My Dad? I didn't tell him I self-harmed until a few months ago. I was around 15/16 years old when I first started, and stopped in 2020. I was 32 the age I am now, 32 when I told him for the very first time in the car. My Dad then started crying when I showed him my scars on my left arm. He then said he doesn't dare want to lose a daughter, that he just don't want to be here. I told him I wasn't going anywhere, especially if it's just me and my sister; we're all he's got left.

My Mom died three years ago.

I'll admit it, she frustrated me sometimes. I said things I shouldn't have. No child is perfect to their parents, not me, not you, or anyone else.

She dies in the hospital on July 15th 2020, we got the call at near 7:30PM on my Dad's Birthday. Went to the hospital where I stood there for three hours holding her cold hand because I will NEVER hug her. I also felt guilt because now that she's gone, I can't apologize for the things that was said to her. I still cry SO wishing I can apologize. That guilt will weigh on your chest, in your head, and it will stay with you.

Your parents CARE about you. One day they will be gone, and you will regret not talking to them, apologizing to them, and just not hanging out with them. They will be there for you always, you never stop being a parent to your child, no matter how old you are.

Parents can be a pain in the butt, children can be a pain in the butt... but we love them in the end.

I hope you think about it.

I think this is implied for the loving, good parents out there. Treat them with the respect they’ve showed you. But alas many families are broken these days

Do they buy you food and pay for the house and your phone and internet and clothes and everything else?

They love you.

You may not like them and you may want to move out and both of those are perfectly fine but none of that means your parents don't love you.

Also, do some research about what stuff costs. Living on your own sounds great but it's way expensive. And before you tell me "I'll get a job", find the costs and do the math.
