My friends father was a surgeon and he quit his job when his wife got cancer to take care of her 24/7 while living on bank debt. She died anyway and then he had been out of medical practice for so long, he couldn't work as a surgeon anymore. It took him a long time to get a simple job as a truck driver cause he was so intelligent that managers were afraid to hire him out of a fear he would replace them as managers at their business. If your dad has cancer you have to think about how your behaviour will affect the quality of life for the people who remain alive, such as your boyfriend who might be your husband one day and your children,.
I would keep working. My dad would have wanted me to do so. I don't want my boyfriend to have the burden of finance on his own.
That's a decision you have to make. I personally wouldn't want to work, as I would want to spend every moment I can with my dad if he were dying.
