How to deal with an 87yo grandma that talks about things that never happened?

I'll try to make this post short. My 87yo grandma accused my dad of pointing a gun at her head and trying to kill her she says the police is already aware that he wants to take all her money and belongings, however, this never happened. We don't have guns in the house and my dad never ever did such thing we tried telling her this never happened she insists it did. My dad is devastated. She started making up similar stories too and my family doesn't know what to do. I live abroad and I also feel lost and shocked with what's going on.

Can I be a witness? I live abroad and only see my family a couple times a year. Everyone else in my family knows this never happened.

Sure, you can be a witness although I think how that proceeds depends on the justice system of the country where you are from.

In the United States, we have something called an "affidavit" which is a document of sworn and witnessed testimony.

So, for instance, on an affidavit, you might write "To the best of my knowledge, my father does not own a gun nor had he ever used one against my grandmother. It is not in his nature to be violent as she has asserted." However, someone who has the status of a "notary public" would have to sign the affidavit assuring that 1) you are who you say you are and 2) that you are responsible for the comments made on the affidavit.

An affidavit has legal implications and can be used as "sworn testimony" in a trial, especially if the witness is unavailable to appear in court.

Obviously her mental health has deteriorated to a point of being delusional. Better get her checked by her doctors and have a written diagnosis ready in case she actually calls the police.

She goes to the family doctor every month but I don't know exactly what they talk about I'm not sure the doctor is aware of this. What's the best doctor to evaluate this situation.

The family doctor first, because he knows her the longest. Then some clinical psychiatrist who can run a standard test with her.

Does she have dementia? It’s worth going to one of her doctor appointments with her and having her checked out.

The doctor hasn't diagnosed her with dementia but to me it looks very much like dementia/esquiophrenia/alzheimer but I'm not a doctor.

No, I don't make fun of her. I joke with her she laughs about it and that's how I end the conversation whenever she starts talking non sense.

Sounds like she might have memory loss so she might have had a gun pulled on her at some point but not by your father

This never happened at all no one ever pointed a gun at her.

Plot twist: She is telling the truth

No she's not. There's always someone home with her and we can assure you this never happened. She even says my brother tried to stop my dad and my brother told her this never happened.
