What are Your Plans for Labor Day?

Actually, not too much. It is nice to have the day off but - honestly - Labor Day has always been a bit of a downer.

The end of summer and the long days. People getting back to their normal routines. Plus, at least in my family, unlike many of the other holidays, we don't really treat it as a get-together holidays. Rather, everybody scatters in all directions and does their own thing.

As I say, don't get me wrong, it can be fun. Yet Labor Day - again, at least in my family - was kind of a winding it down kind of a holiday. In fact, I loved school - especially high school and college - but that feeling that the "hazy, lazy, crazy days of summer" were coming to an end even put a damper on that.

Bottom line, we'll just hang out. We won't go anywhere - except maybe a movie on Saturday night - but we'll enjoy the time. We just will do our level best not to recall that Fall and Winter are next.

Oh, and just for the record, as far as I am concerned, the year should begin on April 1 and end on August 31. Really not a huge fan of that whole Fall/Winter thing if you could not tell.

I will be enjoying my last full day of summer break, before going back to work. I do go back to work for a few hours each day in the last week of August to prep my classroom and materials, and do workshops. But school here always starts on the Tuesday after Labour Day, so yep - I’ll be enjoying my day off and doing absolutely nothing.

Labour Day is not a thing in the UK, though we do have summer Bank Holiday on Monday the 28th of August, then no other national holidays til the 25th December.
