Couple conditions/assumptions here.

First, I'm assuming it's something that I personally think is horrible, yes? I mean, you catch somebody diddling your 6-year-old and a week later shoot them in the face, I'm okay with that, but if you did something that I personally think is horrible, we're probably not friends anymore. Now just because you're convicted doesn't mean you did it, so the conviction doesn't mean I won't stick up for you so much as if I think you actually did it, AND it was something that I personally thought was horrible.

My friends come to me for advice and opinions, because they know they can count on me for honesty. My opinion could not match up with theirs, and that's exactly why they reach out, because I'm not biased and look at it as it is. Will I stick up for a friend? I will tell the public how I got to know the person and what I know that person for as a friend. I won't say things like "they would never do that" or "he's innocent". If the proof is there, the proof is there. Depending on who it is, it will come as a shock or a bigger shock.

Depends on what I believe actually happened. If I think they didn't do it, yes! If I think they did do it, depends on if I can forgive them (or more if I did forgive them).

If it was something like rape or murder of someone innocent pretty sure I could not and would not stick up for them.

If your wife says no get the fuck away from me and have sex with her anyway, THAT'S CALLED RAPE! Danny is a scum bag. He should go directly to death chamber. No time no nothing. Right after judge hits gavel he should be taken through door into chamber. Rape shouldn't be a time in jail thing. Neither some other things against the law. But we're not talking about them.

Now "if" friend is accused wrongly, of course I will defend them. But I have to know if they actually didn't do it.

I went on a tangent there. But I don't understand why some people put "religion" as a reason to break a law.

Well I guess it depends on the horrible thing they did I mean there are some horrible things that people might do to prove a point to change the world to be a better place it might be the wrong thing at the time to do but in the long run it might be a good thing.. so I guess it all just depends.
I mean if s a person's a good person and did something stupid I would probably be a good character witness because they did something stupid we all have done something stupid so I guess it just really depends on what it's all about

Unless they premeditatedly harmed or took an innocent life.

If they did something horrible but a trial by jury would undoubtedly render a not guilty verdict, of course.

Now, that doesn’t mean because they weren’t held criminally liable, and that victims friends and family thought it was horrible, what happened to their loved one (s), then decided to bring a civil lawsuit against my friend, l would have no sympathy for that victims friends or family.

It would depend on what the definition of 'horrible' was. I draw a hard line at things like Rape, Murder and Child Abuse. I think even their own mothers would have a hard time with that one.

If you're talking about the letters those two wrote in support of Masterson, I think the criticism of them is way off-base. When you write a character reference letter like that you are expressing YOUR experiences with that person to indicate that they have some positive attributes. It doesn't mean you don't think they did what they are accused of, or that you think the victims are lying or that you approve of what they did outside of your personal knowledge of their behavior.

Define horrible. I had a friend who took up bank robbing. I probably would have taken him back as a friend after he got out of prison if he'd cleaned up his act. But he didn't. At some point you just have to cut people off.
