What makes you want space from someone even though you still want to maintain a friendship with them?

Me needing to be on my own because I'm going through something and I hate it when people try to comfort me. I don't want that hand on my shoulder, tissues, "it's going to be okay", I hate that.

My childhood friends who know me well will say this "holler". Just one word to let me know they'll respect me wanting space while, at the same time, telling me that I can reach out to them whenever.

I hate gossips and talking behind someone's back, though I couldn't possibly break our friendship for that but will surely try to maintain space with that person

Taking space means taking a break from friendship.

I don't believe in that concept, for me there is nothing like taking space I will end contact and friendship with that person instead.
