Did I do the right thing by ending friendship with someone that thinks women aren't good at friendship?

So I have been friends with this guy for a few months. Yesterday, while talking about something he asked "are your friends mostly female?" I gave an affirmative reply. He said "I'm sorry for you. Women suck at friendship. Get some more guy friends."

This blatant statement got me angry. I told him that I consider my female friends no less sincere and sweet compared to men. Then he said "just believe it, please don't say such pointless stuff. You people hate each other." He asked one of his female friends the same thing and she replied that she's more comfortable with men than women. Sharing the screenshot of the chat, the guy further called me an idealistic day-dreamer.

My female friends can be occasionally mean. But I don't want a random guy to tell me that they are worthless because they are women and I need to move towards men for friendship. So I told him to stop talking to me.

Did I do the right thing?

I think so. You don’t need that negativity. Just because he’s had bad experiences with being friends with women, doesn’t mean that everyone has the same experience as he does, so I don’t understand why he’s trying to force that mindset and view onto your friendships with women. He sounds like someone who’s small minded and can’t see anything from anyone’s point of view but his own.

That’s up to you to decide. But I will say he isn’t completely wrong. Women tend to have more male friends for that reason. A lot of women are catty, talk shit behind each others backs. I’ve worked in a female dominated profession for almost 9 years, always drama. I don’t recall any of my make friends ever being mean, not even occasionally as you pointed out about your female friends. Female friends aren’t usually honest w each other. Most of them have friends who agree w everything they say because they don’t want to hurt each others feelings. Which does a big disservice to women. Girls tell each other they’re perfect, don’t change, etc, but then when you get into reality you’re wondering why aren’t men asking me out. My friends all told me I was perfect, pretty, etc. Just my opinion.

Well when you hung out irl and did things with him did he say the same things? Ending a friendship just because of a few posted ignorant comments may not be the best decision
