Would it be weird at all if I call my neighbor to talk about this?

A couple of days ago, I drove by my neighbors house just when it was getting dark. So around 5 pm. I saw that he had a fire going in his yard. The next morning I drove by, there was still some smoke coming off the pile, so I think he left it to burn overnight. Which is obviously dangerous. Thats how a lot of wildfires happen. I was gonna just talk to him next time I see him, but that could be a while from now, and I just want to get it over with. I don't have his number but my mom does. Would it be at all weird if I got his number from my mom, and then called him?

Burn piles are common in some areas during the fall and winter once the landscape is moist from rains and the summer fire season is over.

Depending on where you live, a person might need to notify the fire department and get a burn permit if they plan to burn a pile of brush.

Once the pile gets burning, you can't put it out and restart it the next day. But once it is burned down to embers, it's fine to let all the glowing embers burn down to white ash as long as there is no wind or breeze.

I've done it several times on my property. And yes, I've let them smolder all night as long as no sparks or cinders are rising from the pile. I don't necessarily sit there and watch it constantly at that point, but I do keep a close eye out.

Chances are, your neighbor kept checking it from time to time to make sure it was safe.

If the fire didn't get out of control, I don't see the problem. If you want to be a worry wart, call the fire department and have them check to insure that what your neighbor
did was legal.

Sounds like the fire was under control because nothing was burned down, right? So there’s no need if your neighbor was being responsible and didn’t let the fire spread.
