No. Higher education is not "babysitting" like grade/high school is. You are there to learn how to be a contributing member of society and how to work with other adults, learn how to think for yourself, learn about how the world of business works, and maybe become an expert in some field that nobody else is an expert in. None of these things is a waste of time. And learning how to be a peer and how to teach others will make you a better parent because you have more understanding of the learning "process."
Higher education isn't for stuffing your head full of facts, it's for teaching you how to learn, fact-find, and teach others so that you can be a contributing member of adult society and not just going along for the ride as a barnacle to society who makes french fries for the rest of your life.
I'd say it's important ESPECIALLY if you want kids. And honestly, the kids only need you 24 hours until they're five. Then you're going to be bored and unable to get a real job because you don't even have a degree. With a degree, you can at least get one that is more accommodating and allows you to work around your kids' schedules and pays enough that you don't have to work full-time, nights and weekends.
After you ge your bachelors I'm talking
Yes. I'd say my Master's Degree was more important to my career than anything else.
What did you do in your Masters?
As in what field?
Computer Security and Information Assurance
I don't really know very much about that field. How was it different than your undergrad?
Undergrad focused on I. T. in a business setting... this focused on security, legal stuff, making sure flow of data isn't tainted/corrupted... a lot more specialized and senior engineer level solutions vs. "how computers are used in daily business."
It's hard to trust masters programs these days. Some of them are legitimate some of them are just cash grabs.
I've heard of some people going back to school very disappointed as it hasn't helped them get a better job.
Tricky one.
Depends on the supply and demand of the field and where you live, I imagine. I'm in a very "educated" part of the country with top universities all around. A Master's is kind of a minimum for a shot at the better jobs.
No, although work experience obviously becomes more important, although, TBH, work experience is very much a form of education!
