Learning is important to me. "Formal education"? LOL. That's become a joke in most cases.
I have no idea what your situation is, but at some point, you're going to need to enter the work force and earn a living for yourself, unless you are born into a very wealthy family. And, with only a small number of exceptions, an excess of formal education isn't likely to matter very much. The business world certainly has learned the lesson that degrees aren't very reflective of ability, and they've begun to de-emphasize the value of degrees and emphasize the value of experience when hiring. They've found that their long-term results are much better with people who can jump in and figure it out than those who have degrees but no experience.
I'm not saying that college and degrees have NO value, but I think that they have less value today than they were perceived to have in the past, and that the working world has adjusted accordingly.

@Malwi93 I had a very successful IT career without a degree. I was recruited to new jobs several times, meaning people sought me out rather than me looking for a job.
As I said, for many jobs where degrees used to be required, managers have learned that newly degreed graduates don't know how to DO anything, and aren't able to take any initiative or solve problems on their own, because that's not what college taught them to do. Instead, self-taught people have learned to solve problems on their own, and are able to progress much faster, and companies are increasingly looking for THOSE people. There have been a number of articles about that in the financial press recently.

Superb idea , if the whole world would be educated , all woman and men , if the education would be mandatory , we wouldn't live in such mess as a civilization, as we are now , many many world dictators and them alike always kills educated first , because they fear the smart people, in muslim countries, education is limits , part some of the world , girls are not allowed to be educated, someone said once , the knowledge is the power , the world I believe would be way better if education would be free and mandatory, so keep learning and studying to rest of your life 🤓🙏🥳

I think its fundamental if you intend to learn anything about the world, but I don't think it's confined to the four walls of a classroom. In fact, I think it should not be simply determined by those who can memorize stats and pass standardized tests. Once you've learned the basics, it should be getting out there and applying what you know, learning from people what you don't know, and finding ways to travel to meet other people to learn about the culture of life that no amount of book reading can ever prepare you for.

Sitting in a classroom listening to a lecture is not my type of education. I prefer to be taught with an " hands on" approach, and practically. I know some extremely smart and wealthy people who never went to high school, therefore, in my opinion, textbook education is not always necessary.

I love that. Learning is very fun to me, and it's a privilege to be able to do so and even get something like a diploma for it. It's good for your brain, soul, career, people around you and life overall. Go for it.

I liked the scene in "Good Will Hunting", when Matt Damon explained the virtues of a library card.

How much money do you make? I think education in the western culture is very overrated, I know plenty of guys who are fucking super rich and never went to one year of college, if you mean education like Life education that's another story

Nope, show me what I need to know to start and let me get to work and actually learn something. A piece of paper doesn’t mean shit to me, my old boss never finished highschool and is worth probably $200 million. Common sense is important

Education was important to me at a certain point. Its good that you are going that route but always remember to apply what you learn and pass on the knowledge or else it goes to waste

To what end? I view education as an investment to increase my earning potential. I don't see the point in collecting degrees.

Yes, no matter how I received it. Bachelor in Design, MBA, Certificate in IT (back in the days of COBOL and BAL), Diploma in Massage Therapy, plus decades of attending the "school of hard knocks".

Sorry!! Forgot to say congratulations!!
Education was a ticket to be punched for me. For college, I could probably have developed a little bit better set of courses. More meaningful ones for the work world.

Yes, because education is (suuposedly) how we raise a generation of informed citizens. The U. S. fails miserably at it, and we Canucks aren't exactly scintillating at it, either.
