Anyone ever tell their friend they should get a divorce?

If your friend brought this up, would you be mad or hear out what he had to say? I'm on the fence about whether or not I should say anything, but I think keeping my mouth shut isn't really being a good friend.

hold space for them and be there id they’re having a difficult time getting in their relationship.
other people’s relationships are complicated, you don’t see behind closed doors. they’ll figure it out eventually. all you have to do is be a friend on the outside


you could ruin the friendship you have with them by suggesting that. not because it’s the wrong advice but because like i said, relationships are complicated

Personally I think they should be accepting of your opinion especially if it's in their best interest. I guess if the friend did get a divorce and he regretted it or whatever he might become mad at me too. I just don't think it's being a good friend sitting on the sidelines.

i get your point. certainly true

i can see a good friend offering advice like “you deserve better, you’re better off divorced”
an even better friend say “i’m here for you no matter what. i understand this is a complicated decision, i support you if you’re deciding to divorce and won’t judge you if you stay. please let me know how i can be there”

when i went through this i really wished someone would just hold that space instead of continuously having to hear why divorce was the better choice. the fact that it’s the truth and the right decision is almost irrelevant

your friend will get divorced. eventually. the best way to be a friend right now isn’t to give them advice on their own relationship but to offer them the advice friendship that’s between you and them. they’ll figure the other part out

i meant offering them the friendship that’s between the two of you. it’s rather independent of what’s between them and whoever they’re divorcing

I told my brother he should get divorced. Pretty much everyone told him toward the end. She was selfish and toxic and a horrible wife. Thankfully her took everyone's advice and now he's married to a good woman.
