Of course, “how much” is optional, I know it’s really none of our business. 🙂 This question was inspired by a friend on here that works out of town a lot. He said he’ll leave between $20-$40 a day and that they really appreciate it and even give him special perks. Extra coffee, good quality toilet tissue, extra towels, extra bath soap…. I’ll be honest, I’ve never tipped housekeeping at a hotel. I never knew it was customary! I kinda feel bad thinking about it.😔
Oh, God. Yeah, he is very generous and tips well but what you don’t know, is it comes with a list of demands! I traveled with him and his wife, as a babysitter a couple times. It’s embarrassing! “Okay, I don’t want housekeeping disturbing me before 9am. I also want Folgers Breakfast Blend for coffee, I want Northern toilet paper, Irish Spring soap…………” and it literally goes on and on! What really irritates me, is people seem to like him! Not that he’s a bad guy but it can get ridiculous. Even his wife would roll her eyes in total embarrassment. 😂 That aside lol, in answer to your question, I would never have tipped, had it not been for dealing with him. Like you, I wouldn’t even think people did. I do now but it isn’t a huge amount. I’m not messy! Plus, I clean the room before they even come. 😂

Sometimes. The other day I got my period while I was staying in a hotel. In the morning when I woke up the bed was full of blood. I was so embarrassed. Before leaving I wrote an apologize note saying sorry for messing the bed and left 10€ on the night stand.
Depends. Most days I keep the do not disturb up if it's a work trip. I don't make much mess and I'll grab more coffee at the front desk. Personal trip, depends on how much the place gets trashed and how many special requests I/we have. I left two ladies $500 for a week one time when a close lady friend and I spent a week in a hotel together after deployment because we put that place through the wringer and they made sure we were taken care of.
I don't think that is a horrible idea I have never done it myself but my mother did once on a whole family trip because she felt horrible with the mess all the grandkids ended up making towards the end when we were leaving.

Don’t stay at tons of hotels, but when I travel with family, they do leave something each day. I think around $5.
Usually $5 a day at an average hotel like Holiday Inn Express.
I tip based on service and my surplus budget. I won’t sacrifice my lunch for a tip, but if I have enough for 200 lunches I will give a nice tip.
Like some have said, I will leave anywhere from five dollars to twenty dollars a day, depending on accommodations and how good the service is. Usually, it’s ten dollars a day.
No, hotels are overpriced, they can afford to pay workers generous wages, let alone fair ones. Tipping supports shit wages, never tip.
Force workers to demand better pay with the threat of quitting.Usually don’t have cleaning done during my stay. Saving 💦! Then will leave maybe ten dollars when leaving.
I do sometimes. And I definitely did when I went on a cruise. The guy that took care of our room on our cruise went out of his way to make us happy and comfortable.
fifty... but I never stay long
I do not. They are providing a service for the Hotel/doing their job. If they were doing a service for me I would tip. Example the guy that brought my roomservice or if they brought up any luggage.
Tip culture is an American thing. I wouldn't dream of it, but then I wouldn't stay in a hotel with my own money either.
No but I hit them with my comically oversized railworker's mallet
No tipping here. People actually are paid a living wage.
yes the postman the garbage men and all who do things for us
I do in foreign countries, 'cuz I don't trust their standards
Wow, that’s a big tip
$20; but I've gotten into the habit of putting the DND sign out so the maids skip me over most days.
Nah, I don't see the point in tipping
Never.
$20 on the desk or table only when I check out.
At least a C note.
