Why do people snitch on themselves?

Just received word that both females that I went to school with were just killed. This started over a Facebook live on April fools day. both girls were apparently involved in gang activity, but were dropped as confidential informants. From what we witnessed on her live on April fools day, all of us watching just actually knew. She was incriminating herself on the live so bad and revealing more information about the other girl involved. She was literally swapping sides in one sentence. That girl was telling everything including who’s related to who. What the police didn’t know, she told on the live. Her and her sister went around the cities being the biggest bullies on earth. We learned on the live that the police dropped them. That girl was telling us stuff that we wasn’t suppose to have known. I don’t think she noticed what she was telling us lol
